Features - Storage Innovations:MTI AND QUANTUM TEAM TO PROVIDE INTEGRATED BACKUP/RECOVERYMTI Technology Corp, a major provider of enterprise storage and data protection solutions, and Quantum Corp, a leading provider of data protection systems, have teamed to offer an integrated backup/recovery solution incorporating the Quantum DX30, a new high-capacity disk-based enhanced backup system that emulates a tape library. For this latest collaboration with Quantum, MTI has packaged a value-added turnkey solution called DataSentry VTL (virtual tape library) that includes professional services, software integration, installation and maintenance. MTI's DataSentry VTL protects investments in backup procedures and equipment, enabling an enterprise to continue traditional tape operations for off-site storage and long-term archiving using its existing tape libraries. Together, MTI's management processor and Quantum's DX30 provide the full-service backup platform that customers demand. The Quantum DX30 reduces the backup window dramatically when compared to tape technology, with up to 10 times the performance of automation products. The Quantum DX30's performance allows the unit to initiate file restores within seconds and recover a 280-gigabyte application server in less than an hour. Through March 31, MTI is offering qualified customers three-year financing options -- including limited 0% programs for up to 12 months -- with low, fixed monthly payments covering all equipment, licensing, installation and maintenance costs. "MTI has been providing data storage solutions for more than two decades, and they understand and address customers' data storage pain points," said Rob Pickell, vice president of worldwide marketing for Quantum's Storage Solutions Group. "Quantum's relationship with MTI provides customers with storage solutions that match the latest Quantum technology, including the DX30 and M2500 products, and MTI's value-added solutions." The basic DataSentry VTL configuration, designed for upgrading existing backup solutions, features the Quantum DX30; MTI VTL Services, which include a three-year support program as well as design, implementation, warranty service, and quarterly reassessments; and backup software modules for Legato NetWorker or Veritas NetBackup users. Payments can start as low as $2,779 a month. The second configuration, a comprehensive solution for new data protection initiatives, adds a Quantum ATL M2500 automated tape library, with up to 13.4 terabytes of native capacity using SDLT 320 and corresponding backup software support; and a 40-inch rack mount that includes installation and service. Monthly payments can start as low as $5,173. The third configuration is a high-performance, end-to-end data storage and protection solution, ideal for new application deployments. To the second configuration it adds an MTI Vivant 400, a high-availability SAN storage system with 2-gigabit Fibre Channel technology, 2.23 terabytes of storage capacity, MTI's DataSentry management processor, and phone-home capability. Monthly payments can start as low as $7,409. "These solutions address our customers' most critical concerns about their current backup environments -- that backup windows are too small, data is growing too fast, and recovery takes too long," said Kevin Clark, MTI's vice president, North American sales. "Our DataSentry VTL packages represent unequalled value, when you compare our low payments with competitive offerings that can exceed $100,000 in upfront costs. Also, working closely with Quantum allows us to offer the best-of-breed backup products to round out the complete solution we provide."
