LEADING NY MUSEUM EVOLVES FROM DAS TO SAN WITH SYNCHRONISM

FalconStor Software Inc, a leading developer of storage software solutions, and Storage Engine Inc, an innovative provider of fault tolerant, cost effective enterprise storage solutions, have announced that the American Museum of Natural History has selected Storage Engine's Synchronism fault tolerant data storage solution, powered by a customized version of FalconStor's IPStor, to manage its expanding storage infrastructure with high availability, performance, security, and scalability.

With a permanent collection of more than 30 million specimens and cultural artifacts and a scientific staff of more than 200 in research divisions in Anthropology, Paleontology, Invertebrate and Vertebrate Zoology, and the Physical Sciences, the Museum found that its data was quickly outgrowing its existing direct-attached storage environment. In migrating to a storage area network, the Museum wanted solutions yielding a robust SAN infrastructure to provide just-in-time virtual storage provisioning and consistent database snapshot. The Museum wanted to efficiently manage the storage of its seven to 35 terabytes of data, and turned to Storage Engine and FalconStor to meet its storage requirements.

The Museum's IT organization required a storage solution with an extensive set of advanced storage management features and the ability to leverage the existing storage environment to meet all its requirements. Synchronism, powered by IPStor, provides the Museum with a centralized and easy-to-use storage farm that runs on its existing networks. This enables the current IT staff to be more productive, and meets all their needs including remote replication, server consolidation, storage consolidation, and improved backup time.
