KINGSTON OFFERS HIGH-CAP MONOLITHIC SDRAM FOR NOTEBOOK OEMS

Kingston Technology Company Inc has announced the availability of new high-capacity monolithic PC100/133 SDRAM memory modules ranging from 512MB to 2GB. Marketed through Kingston's OEM Services Division (OSD), Kingston utilizes Samsung Electronics' 512Mbit chip technology in the design of the SDRAM monolithic memory modules. The new monolithic technology enables Kingston to manufacture 512MB and 1GB stacked SO-DIMM memory modules for notebooks and other devices where there is limited space availability.

"Kingston's OEM Services Division (OSD) is unique in that it focuses on some of the largest specialty integrators in the industry," said Mark Pringle, vice president, OEM sales, Kingston. "With our monolithic solution using Samsung's 512Mbit chip technology, OSD can offer integrators a module that meets the stringent loading and thermal requirements needed by these customers."

"Today's notebook PCs are required to handle more complex graphics and application programs than ever before," said Tom Quinn, vice president memory marketing, Samsung Semiconductor Inc. "Our 512MB monolithic memory modules offer increased memory density in a compact foot print to drive system performance."

Kingston's OEM Services Division (OSD) provides an array of services in procurement, manufacturing, testing, and logistics management. Part of OSD's focus is to provide customized memory solutions for customers requiring specialized products, such as Kingston's new monolithic SDRAM modules. These modules give strategic OEM customers the ability to utilize Kingston's worldrenowned manufacturing and services, while maintaining a solution that meets their specific needs.

Monolithic refers to a single DRAM IC, which contains only one die. Key advantages in using monolithic technology are less loading and better thermal performance for specialty modules comparing with the stacked-chip solution.

The modules range from a 512MB Unbuffered and 1GB Registered or Unbuffered non-stacked memory module to a 2GB stacked Registered memory module.
