Brocade has announced a first group of seven storage management software applications available for its Silkworm fabric application platform (also known as the Rhapsody switch). The company says this puts it ahead of rival Cisco. It isn't touting the multiprotocol (IP as well as FC) capabilities of the switch, since that doesn't serve Brocade's near-term interests. IP is also a long-term threat.
