InoStor INTRODUCES NEXT EVOLUTION OF RAID

InoStor has announced RAIDn, a revolutionary means of protecting 24/7/365 storage. Available for licensing now, RAIDn will deliver unparalleled reliability without sacrificing performance or capacity and at an affordable price point -- unavailable in conventional RAID schemes available today. The patent-pending technology is positioned to radically change the way businesses deploy RAID across storage networks by ensuring that mission critical databases are available even when multiple concurrent drive failures occur.

"Some thought it couldn't be done, but the next evolution of RAID is here. With RAIDn the user just needs to decide how much capacity they want and how much security through disk redundancy they need. RAIDn does the rest with its unique structure of mathematical algorithms," said Ken Cruden, vice president of Sales & Marketing. "We envision that RAIDn will be implemented through operating systems, controllers or in storage devices to remove the obstacles users face today to achieving maximum levels of availability, reliability and capacity at a truly affordable cost. We expect 'Secured by RAIDn' to become a new standard of optimal storage protection."

InoStor's RAIDn is a software library with a set of patent-pending algorithms that implement a revolutionary parity scheme across an array of disk drives. This patent-pending technology allows system administrators to select the level of "insurance" desired against the failure of one or more disk drives in a RAID array, all the way up to N-1 drives (where "N" indicates the total number of drives in the array). Initially available in Linux, the technology can also be easily implemented in other operating systems and at the hardware level. RAIDn is a new methodology for placing data on disk drives, offering much higher reliability, more storage space for actual data and is less expensive than traditional RAID solutions.

"Imagine being able to ensure your data availability in a NAS device by determining the number of drive failures you want to protect and still being able to put data on every disk in the system," said David Licosati, vice president of NAS Business Development. "RAIDn has the potential for use in numerous applications and industries where the reliable transmission of critical data is a priority. Our first practical application will appear in NAS devices. In test after test we have proven that when RAIDn is incorporated our NAS device can handle a three drive failure on a nine drive system with continuous high performance achieved. Furthermore, there is no cost penalty for additional parity drives as required in a typical RAID 1+0 solution."

Both "read" and "write" performance for RAIDn are on par with conventional RAID 5 implementations, and faster than typical compound RAID 1+5 or RAID 5+5 configurations. RAIDn provides superior protection compared to today's most expensive attempt at enhancing storage reliability -- RAID 1+5 (mirroring with parity) -- and with far fewer disk drives. Or, using the same number of disk drives, RAIDn provides about twice the data capacity of a RAID 1+5 solution. "RAIDn has been in development for eight years. The long-term investment brings a technology to market at a time when security and reliability are more significant concerns than ever before. While the first application is in data storage it is clear that RAIDn will be a significant component where ever data is transmitted and stored," said Alton Keel, CEO of InoStor Corporation. "InoStor is paving the way for users to achieve unheard of levels of storage availability and data integrity when Secured by RAIDn."

About InoStor

InoStor Corporation is a network storage technologies company providing high performance storage solutions including NAS (Network Attached Storage), tape-based automation, tape drive and media solutions. InoStor was created by a merger of Tandberg Data Inc, a subsidiary of Tandberg Data ASA, and LAND-5 Corporation in March of 2002. Our NAS solutions deliver new standards of reliability and performance at an affordable cost. The Company's focus on software development has resulted in RAIDn, the next evolution in RAID technology. InoStor also sells the highly reliable line of Tandberg Data automation solutions, tape drives and media including SLR, DLTtape and LTO technologies. InoStor's corporate headquarters are located at 13000 Gregg Street, Poway, Calif. 92064. More information can be found at www.inostor.com.
