MICRON RACES ON WITH ANNOUNCEMENT OF 4GB DDR SDRAM DIMM

As the memory race trundles on, major industry player Micron took a step forward recently when it announced that it was sending the industry's first 4GB DDR SDRAM registered DIMM to chip maker and industry heavyweight Intel.

The 4GB DIMM is built on Micron's 1Gb 2.5V 266MHz DDR chip, which formed the backbone for the 1GB DIMM Micron had announced earlier this year. The newly announced DIMM is a standard 184-pin PC1600 and PC2100 memory model, and will enable machines that harness up to 64GB of memory.

However, Samsung has also announced a 4GB DIMM that is built around their own proprietary 0.1 micron 1Gb DDR chip. Vendors should look for the availability of Samsung's 4GB DIMM offering sometime towards the second half of 2003.
