LUCENT TO LEVERAGE SUN STOREDGE 3310 SCSI ARRAY FOR ANYPATH

The Sun StorEdge 3310 SCSI Array, which has received overwhelming positive feedback from channel partners and customers since its launch in September 2002, will now be leveraged by Lucent Technologies to deliver the next-generation Anypath Messaging Platform. The announcement was made today at CTIA in New Orleans by Lucent and Sun Microsystems. The two companies are teaming to introduce new products and services that will allow service providers to accelerate the deployment of advanced communications services, which will increase network traffic and ultimately increase revenues.

The 3310 SCSI Array was the first product to be announced in the new Sun StorEdge 3000 family of entry-level offerings. The array has been very successful, providing workgroup performance for hundreds of companies as well as providing Sun channel partners with a quality entry-level offering from Sun Storage. On February 10th, Sun added two new products to the family with the announcement of the Sun StorEdge 3310 NAS Product and 3510 Fibre Channel Array.

Lucent's next-generation Anypath Messaging Platform utilizes a distributed architecture that leverages Sun's StorEdge 3310 SCSI advanced storage solution to address the rapidly growing message storage marketplace across multiple networks, including; PSTN, IP, GSM, TDMA, CDMA. This unified communications platform provides customers with lower total cost of ownership, convenience, productivity and economies of scale through a common standards-based infrastructure, allowing for independent scaling of mailboxes from ports and IP sessions. Sun's storage solution provides the density, NEBS-certification and scalability to increase the speed of new service introduction and deliver existing carrier-grade voice applications, while integrating new end-to-end data services. Lucent's Anypath also leverages the Sun ONE Portal Server and the Sun ONE Portal Server: Mobile Access Pack.

Working together, Sun and Lucent are delivering comprehensive and reliable business solutions to wireless and wire line service providers that will help customers reduce costs and complexity, improve productivity and provide end customers with advanced services more quickly. In addition to the Anypath Messaging Platform, Lucent will offer the following solutions that leverage various Sun products:

  • Mobile Service Delivery and Service Mediation
  • IP-enabled Intelligent Networking Solutions
  • Convergent Networks and Services-Enhanced Business Services
