Features - Enterprise Data Insights:DELL'ORO SAYS EMULEX HAS INCREASED HBA MARKET SHARE LEADEmulex Corporation announced recently that it has continued to expand its worldwide Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) market share, increasing its share of the total market to 45 percent during 2002, according to a recently-released SAN Report from Dell'Oro Group. Dell'Oro Group, an independent research and advisory firm, has ranked Emulex the number one supplier of Fibre Channel host bus adapters, in terms of both revenue and total ports for 2002. Data from Dell'Oro also states that Emulex expanded its number one share of the Fibre Channel HBA market by nearly six percentage points during 2002, a gain larger than any other vendor. "Dell'Oro Group's report validates Emulex's continued market share growth in the storage networking connectivity space during 2002," said Kirk Roller, Emulex president and Chief Operating Officer. "With customers placing more emphasis on total cost of ownership, the value of Emulex's unique upgradeable HBA architecture and recently-announced HBA management solutions has become more critical. As the number one HBA supplier worldwide, Emulex will continue to provide the industry with best-of-breed connectivity solutions that simplify storage management and protect customer investments." Emulex attributes its success in 2002 to a number of factors, including multiple design wins with the industry's leading OEMs including Dell, EMC, HP and IBM. In addition, Emulex's mid-range HBA family, including the 2Gb/s LP952L and 2Gb/s PCI-X LP982, are increasingly utilized by OEMs in the fast-growing Windows and Linux server market. Emulex also announced its HBAnyware and MultiPulse software technologies, which enable customers to take advantage of Emulex's unique seamlessly upgradeable architecture to simplify storage networking management in the enterprise. Today, Emulex is working closely with approximately 18 customers and partners to incorporate HBAnyware functionality into OEM, switched fabric or third party storage management solutions. Dell'Oro Group's SAN Report provides in-depth information on market shares, manufacturer revenues and port shipments by technology sector, and contains segmentation on SAN switches and HBAs.
