Features - Storage Innovations:QUANTUM UNVEILS CERTIFIED STAGING/CLONING SOLUTIONQuantum Corp unveiled a new certified backup and recovery solution at Storage Networking World in Phoenix. Quantum and LEGATO Systems Inc have teamed to provide the solution and will jointly demonstrate its staging and cloning capabilities using the ATL P-Series enterprise tape library, Quantum DX30 enhanced backup system and LEGATO NetWorker 7.0. The certification of this solution is a milestone for Quantum's ATL P-Series tape libraries, which now has 200 certifications to date. The combination of a Quantum ATL P-Series tape library with one or more Quantum DX30 systems and LEGATO NetWorker provides a wide range of service levels to IT organizations. LEGATO NetWorker, working in conjunction with the Quantum DX30, enables the user to make duplicate copies of the data through a process called cloning, which provides unsurpassed data reliability and the ability to later browse and recover the data. The ATL P-Series/Quantum DX30 solution backs the data to a DX30 at speeds in excess of 288GB/hr. LEGATO NetWorker then clones the backup data from the DX30 to the ATL P-Series library for archiving and off-site storage. The transparent process separates the backup target from the backup archive, allowing the appropriate resources to be applied to optimally address backup window and data portability requirements of customers. "This tough economy places data centers under increasing pressure to protect and recover business-critical applications in less time and at lower risk," said Lynne VanArsdale, enterprise product line manager for Quantum's Storage Solutions Group. "Teaming with LEGATO further demonstrates Quantum's commitment of providing flexible solutions that are simple for our customers and reduces their risk of data loss." "Quantum and LEGATO have provided a multi-faceted data protection solution that combines the unique capabilities of NetWorker 7 with the Quantum DX30 and the ATL P-Series tape libraries, enabling disk-based backup and cloning to tape for a backup and recovery solution that meets today's data protection and availability requirements," said Victoria Grey, vice president, Information Protection, LEGATO Systems. About ATL P-Series Tape LibrariesQuantum's ATL P-Series tape libraries continue to define the standard in tape automation with a legacy of interoperability and connectivity for complete, end-to-end solutions. Its fourth generation design, paired with hot-swappable components, allows users to spend time running operations instead of on maintenance. Quantum's Prism Storage Architecture, the foundation on which the P-Series libraries are based, provides maximum flexibility to cost-effectively adapt data protection resources as technology changes with minimal disruption to existing infrastructure and operations. Whether the need is for increased capacity and performance, or the ability to consolidate and manage critical data remotely, Prism allows the ATL P-Series tape library to fit customers' network storage needs. Quantum's long-standing reputation for delivering high availability and reliability was once again demonstrated as the ATL P-Series recently surpassed more than three million swaps without failure during internal testing at Quantum's Ongoing Reliability Testing lab. About Quantum DX30The Quantum DX30 is the next step in the evolution of data protection. Utilizing disk-based technology to complement tape libraries, it addresses the most significant backup challenges facing IT professionals -- the time required for backup, confidence in completing all backup jobs and time to restore data. About QuantumQuantum Corp, founded in 1980, is a global leader in data protection, meeting the needs of business customers with enterprise-wide storage solutions and services. Quantum is the world's largest supplier of tape drives, and its DLTtape technology is the standard for backup, archiving, and recovery of mission-critical data. Quantum is also a leader in the design, manufacture and service of automated tape libraries used to manage, store and transfer data. This year, the company expanded into the area of disk-based backup, with a solution that emulates a tape library and is optimized for data protection. Quantum sales for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2002, were approximately $1.1 billion. Quantum Corp., 501 Sycamore Dr., Milpitas, CA 95035, 408-944-4000, www.quantum.com.
