Features - Enterprise Data Insights:ADVENT NETWORKS CONSOLIDATES STO INFRASTRUCTURE WITH BlueArcBlueArc Corporation, a leader in highly scalable network attached storage (NAS), announced recently that Advent Networks, a provider of carrier-class cable networking solutions, has consolidated its storage operation using BlueArc's SiliconServer. With an eye toward meeting future storage requirements as the company continues to build out its operations, Advent chose BlueArc's high performance SiliconServer solution over competing offerings for its ability to deliver improved performance and scalability at a much lower total cost of ownership and with simpler storage management. "The BlueArc SiliconServer is a prime example of a strategic purchase for Advent Networks because of its ability to meet our immediate technology requirements and its promise to deliver long-term ROI," said Jason Adams, director of Business Technology for Advent Networks. "We've seen an immediate benefit in BlueArc's ability to consolidate our data center under one storage solution. As a result, we can look forward to realizing long-term advantages such as lower storage-related capital expenditures and reduced management complexity, even as we continue to expand our operations." Advent Networks provides the Ultraband platform of carrier-class IP access products for the cable industry. In addition to enabling the delivery of advanced data services such as high-speed Internet access, Voice over IP, and Video on Demand over IP, Advent's Ultraband platform will help deliver next-generation digital content applications such as interactive IP television, High Definition Television (HDTV) on Demand, video telephony, low-latency interactive game playing, and video home security monitoring. As Advent has scaled its operations, it found that its direct attached storage (DAS) architecture was leading the company toward costly purchases of additional disk arrays to keep up with growing storage needs. Having determined that a storage area network (SAN) would require multiple independent disk arrays in order to manage its multi-platform environment, Advent decided to implement a NAS-based architecture. With the BlueArc SiliconServer, Advent was able to implement a single appliance under which it could consolidate its Windows, Unix and Linux applications. "The BlueArc SiliconServer is particularly well-suited for companies such as Advent Networks, whose size and dependency on storage technology require a high performance to price ratio," said Jeff Allen, senior vice president of Marketing for BlueArc. "BlueArc's SiliconServer Architecture delivers maximum performance and scalability for any storage environment at an efficient cost, enabling our customers to quickly and easily share, manage and protect their data. As such, companies like Advent can reallocate resources previously devoted to managing the storage solution to projects that will grow their business." |
