NEW EMC AUTOMATED NETWORKED STORAGE GAINS TRACTION IN Q1
Organizations around the world are embracing EMC's broad new portfolio of
automated networked storage solutions to reduce information technology costs,
manage complexity and protect their information. In announcing financial
results for the first quarter of 2003, EMC Corporation has highlighted a
sampling of customer wins achieved during the three-month period as tangible
evidence of the information storage leader's growing momentum.
EMC's new Symmetrix DMX series of high-end networked storage systems,
introduced on February 3, 2003, gained strong initial traction, representing
more than half of total first-quarter Symmetrix systems sales in its first two
months of general availability. EMC's CLARiiON CX series of networked storage
systems and software, introduced in the third quarter of 2002, continued to
achieve strong growth, driving approximately 10% sequential growth for the
overall CLARiiON line of products (compared with the fourth quarter of 2002).
EMC's multiplatform software portfolio, including the ControlCenter family of
management software, is bringing customers unprecedented flexibility and
efficiency across multivendor networked storage environments. EMC Centera
Content Addressed Storage (CAS), introduced one year ago, continued to be
EMC's fastest-growing major product line. EMC shipped more than two petabytes
(2,000 terabytes) of Centera systems to customers in the first quarter.
David Goulden, EMC's Executive vice president of Global Marketing and New
Business Development, said, "We finished the first quarter with the broadest,
most extensive product lineup in the industry's history. As these examples
illustrate, our customers are most enthused about the breadth of our
portfolio. They no longer want to buy storage point products, and they are
looking to EMC to address their end-to-end automated networked storage
requirements."
Customers investing in EMC's new automated networked storage solutions
during
the first quarter included:
- U.S. Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) purchased 28 terabytes of the new
EMC
Symmetrix DMX to support its server consolidation and disaster recovery plans.
AFRC also purchased Celerra Network Servers and the EMC ControlCenter family
of open management software, which will be implemented by EMC Global Services.

insurance companies in the U.S., purchased EMC Symmetrix DMX and CLARiiON CX
