VERITAS Software Continues To Lead $3.2 Billion Market

VERITAS Software Corporation, a leading storage software provider, recently announced its continued leadership in the storage management software market. According to a new market research report from analyst firm Gartner(1), VERITAS led the $3.2 billion non-array-based software market with 27.6 percent of market revenues in 2002, a 12.9 percent share lead over its next closest competitor. The report also confirms VERITAS' ongoing leadership in the backup/recovery and volume management segments of the software market, and its rapid market share growth in replication software, the fastest among the top ten vendors.

"We never stop innovating, even in those markets we dominate, because our customers' IT environments keep growing and changing," said Jeremy Burton, chief marketing officer, VERITAS Software. "In 2003, we expect to see continued opportunities in our core, established markets as well as in storage resource management and replication, as we bring new technologies and products to market and integrate our recent acquisitions."

The 2002 results represent a repeat of VERITAS' strong performance in 2001. According to the Gartner report, VERITAS has retained its leadership or gained market share in the following segments:

  • Volume management/virtualization: VERITAS continues its strong leadership position in the volume management/virtualization software segment, with 71.8 percent of the combined UNIX and Windows server platform market. VERITAS provides easy-to-use, online storage management software that helps to reduce the cost and complexity of managing heterogeneous data center environments.
  • Backup and recovery: VERITAS NetBackup and Backup Exec software constitute more than 48 percent of the worldwide market for UNIX and Windows backup and recovery. VERITAS market share for Windows server backup/recovery grew to 57 percent in 2002. VERITAS data protection software helps to ensure the recovery of critical business data, with solutions that span from the desktop to the data center.
  • Replication: VERITAS' revenue from replication software grew 52 percent at a time when the overall replication segment shrank by 9 percent. This represents the fastest growth among the top ten vendors in the market and signifies VERITAS' growth in server-based replication amid a declining market for array-based replication. VERITAS replication technologies offer a flexible, cost-effective and heterogeneous approach to rapidly replicating data for datacenter migration and disaster recovery.
