IBM TIVOLI SW EXTENDS THE VALUE OF STORAGE VIRTUALIZATION

IBM Tivoli Software is first to support the IBM TotalStorage Virtualization Family of products. From provisioning of LUNs, automatic error detection and fault analysis, to enhanced utilization of SAN resources, IBM Tivoli storage software is tightly integrated with the family of virtualization products to enhance the utilization of the SAN environment. This helps customers ensure key storage applications and hardware are available, while providing additional management capabilities that tie virtualization technology into business priorities.

IBM Tivoli SAN Manager

IBM Tivoli SAN Manager provides the SAN device discovery and topology for the SAN Volume Controller which serves as the starting point for the administrator to manage the SAN. The SAN Volume Controller, as well as other storage devices, can be launched directly for Tivoli SAN Manager to allow the storage administrator an easy way to navigate to the appropriate management tool.

IBM Tivoli SAN Manager also provides error detection and predictive fault and failure analysis functionality which helps find and predict SAN network problems before they become severe or impact data and application availability.

IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager

IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager helps customers better manage storage environments, including virtualized SANs, by reducing unplanned downtime, providing detailed information and taking automated actions based on user-defined policies. Tivoli Storage Resource Manager complements the SAN Volume Controller by helping with problem determination such as: -- Which hosts have access to a given SAN Volume Controller (vLUNs)

• Which hosts have access to a given physical disk(s) within SAN Volume Controller
• Which SAN Volume Controller volume and managed disks a host has access to

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager protects critical data behind the SAN Volume Controller. In addition to backup/restore capabilities available immediately, future versions of the product will support the copy services provided by the SAN Volume Controller to do backups with little impact to production resources.

IBM Tivoli Storage Software provides an integral link between virtualization at the storage hardware layer and optimization of the operating environment to support storage as an essential component of an on demand business solution.

In addition, IBM's open approach to Tivoli storage software enables IT managers flexibility in constructing their on demand operating environment because Tivoli software supports heterogeneous storage networks while exploiting the benefits of open standards.
