EMC Announces AutoAdvice Software

EMC Corporation has announced EMC AutoAdvice, powerful subscription-based software that provides customers with Web-based access to customized analysis of performance and resource utilization across their applications, servers, databases and storage systems. Through AutoAdvice, customers can more quickly isolate current problems, identify future trouble spots, and receive expert analysis and best-practices gained from EMC's aggregated experience with thousands of real-world customer scenarios.

A member of the new online EMC ControlCenter management capabilities, AutoAdvice extends EMC's lead in automated networked storage by providing customers with direct, Web-based access to EMC's global repository of information management knowledge.

AutoAdvice provides an inexpensive, effective and automated way to better manage the proliferation of servers and the growing complexity of IT infrastructure. AutoAdvice expands the ControlCenter reporting and monitoring capabilities up to servers, databases and applications, eliminating repetitive manual tasks and automatically turning raw system metrics into expert advice. AutoAdvice isolates emerging performance trends before they impact operations and delivers expert analysis that's specific to the customer's environment.

Tony Marzulli, EMC's vice president of Open Software Marketing, said, "AutoAdvice provides customers with the tools they need to manage more assets, more accurately, and with fewer resources. Delivering end-to-end automation and accurate database and system availability takes more than point products -- it takes powerful new software technologies that can collect and deliver detailed information automatically, without increasing over burdened IT staffs. By expanding ControlCenter's intelligence up to the application layer, and providing the specific recommendations needed to effectively resolve server and application bottlenecks, AutoAdvice delivers predictive intelligence on a daily basis, ensuring IT staffs are focused on important tasks, not just firefighting."

Steve Kenniston, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Storage Group, said, "AutoAdvice technology and associated applications are where we believe the future of service and storage management lies. AutoAdvice shows that EMC continues to advance its place as a trusted advisor to the customer, and is adding additional value to enable end user success. End users want simple-to-use tools that can view as much of their environment as possible through a single pane of glass. The fact that EMC does the heavy lifting for the customer -- meaning IT shops don't have to dedicate already-taxed people to make all this work -- has to be considered a smart move."

Through AutoAdvice, system metrics are automatically collected for Windows, UNIX, and Linux servers and operating systems; Oracle and SQL server databases; and Exchange and SAP applications. AutoAdvice aggregates the collected metrics, analyses them against EMC's repository of accumulated knowledge, and automatically returns to the customer expert information that can be applied to consolidation efforts, root cause analysis, and performance trending.

Additionally, AutoAdvice delivers early warnings about potential performance and capacity problems, enabling IT managers to gain tighter control over their operations, make more informed resource decisions and reduce unplanned downtime.

Pricing and Availability

AutoAdvice is available immediately as a one-year subscription. With coverage ranging from one CPU to a global installation, customers have the flexibility to choose as much or as little as they need. List price for a single CPU is $400; per-CPU pricing declines with larger installations.
