EXABYTE AND LOGITEC SIGN OEM AGREEMENT TO HIT ASIAN MARKET

Exabyte Corporation, a performance and value leader in tape backup systems, announced a recent agreement with Tokyo-based Logitec that will allow the leading Asian computer peripheral manufacturer to offer VXA-2 tape drives to its customers.

Logitec, one of Asia's largest original equipment manufacturers (OEM), has fully certified VXA-2 and has begun selling the product through its extensive sales channels. VXA-2 tape drives are being marketed under the Logitec brand as a backup and archiving solution for Logitec's popular line of AI servers. Logitec is also offering VXA-2 as an add-on peripheral through catalog sales to computer users in Japan.

"VXA-2 is a tape storage solution with excellent quality, reliability and performance at a very competitive price," said Kazutoshi Miyahara, managing director at Logitec. "Logitec's server customers demand storage solutions that offer great value, and VXA-2 has the best price-performance value in the storage market. Many of our customers are looking for alternatives to DDS technology, and Exabyte VXA technology is clearly superior."

"This OEM agreement with Logitec represents a significant endorsement of VXA technology -- particularly in the server market where customers demand maximum performance and capacity at a budget-friendly price," said Jalin Anderson, vice president of Asia/Pacific Sales at Exabyte. "Logitec is one of the most prominent computer equipment and peripheral manufacturers in Japan, and their selection of VXA-2 continues to build sales momentum of VXA in the large Asian market."

VXA-2 dramatically increases the capacity and performance available to tape users who seek an alternative to DDS technology at similar pricing for drives and media. The VXA-2 drive can record up to 160 GB* to a single cartridge at a data transfer rate of up to 12 MB/sec (at an average 2:1 data compression ratio) -- which is 4x the capacity and 2x the speed of DDS-4. Three interface options will be available including Ultra2 Wide SCSI, IDE/ATAPI, and FireWire, providing support for a wide range of computing platforms and operating systems.

VXA-2 delivers full read and write compatibility with VXA-1, protecting the investment of users who have already chosen VXA technology. Logitec has been offering VXA-1 tape drives to its server customers since May 2001, and those customers can now upgrade to the greater speed and capacity of VXA-2 while maintaining their investment in VXA technology.
