FalconStor ENHANCES IPStor WITH INTEGRAL REAL-TIME ANTIVIRUS

FalconStor Software Inc, a leading developer of network storage infrastructure software solutions, has announced the integration of real-time antivirus scanning functionality into the company's IPStor* software in response to growing customer demand for enhanced protection of corporate data from the onslaught of computer viruses.

According to the International Computer Security Association (ICSA), more than ten thousand computer viruses have been identified and 500 new ones are created each month. As more and more businesses rely on the Internet and email as their main communication tools, corporate data is at a higher risk for exposure to viruses and malicious code. Undoubtedly a major concern, a single virus can lead to widespread infection in a matter of hours and result in costly downtime.

To combat this growing threat, FalconStor has added a layer of antivirus scanning capabilities to its IPStor software, leveraging the advanced technology of one of the largest antivirus developers in the industry: Trend Micro. "Trend Micro is committed to developing advanced security solutions that integrate seamlessly with best-of-breed products to deliver the highest levels of data protection and availability possible for our global customers," said Eva Chen, CTO of Trend Micro. "We applaud FalconStor's initiative to integrate Trend's antivirus technology with their cutting-edge IPStor storage management solution in an effort to better control the explosive costs of virus outbreaks, minimize their impact on the enterprise, and ensure business continuity for our mutual customers." This integration enables IPStor to protect against malicious virus code by scanning files on-access, as well as during the download process.

"FalconStor fully recognizes the challenges associated with data disruption, and the crippling effect it can have on business continuity and administrative personnel," said Wai Lam, chief technology officer for FalconStor. "We will continue to devote both human and financial resources to the development of innovative technology that cost effectively address the real world needs of our global customers."

In addition to the new integrated antivirus functionality in IPStor, FalconStor customers have always been able to quickly recover from virus incidents via optional IPStor delta-based snapshot technology, which can be initiated at any time with 100% transaction integrity and without end-user intervention. The automation, guaranteed data integrity and rapid failover /fail-back (no need to perform lengthy database recovery or integrity check) provided by IPStor snapshot technology translates into significant administrative savings and minimization of downtime.
