LEADING PUBLISHER IMPLEMENTS BROCADE STORAGE AREA NETWORK

Brocade Communications Systems Inc (Brocade), a leading provider of infrastructure for Storage Area Networks (SANs), announced recently that leading German publisher M. DuMont Schauberg has chosen Brocade as the foundation for its SAN infrastructure to increase storage utilization through consolidation. With two Brocade SilkWorm 12000 Core Fabric Switches at the center of its SAN, the company now has a flexible, scalable, and highly available storage environment to support data backup and consolidation projects.

M. DuMont Schauberg has chosen Brocade to support the increasing data generated by its various editorial and production systems. The publisher found that these critical systems required flexible provisioning of new storage capacity that was not possible in a direct-attached environment. When fully deployed, the Brocade SAN implementation will support the company's Microsoft Exchange e-mail servers for its 2000 employees and move backup off the LAN, reducing the time required to complete data backup and enabling high availability access to data.

Armin Flamming, head of Production Systems at M. DuMont Schauberg said, "With Brocade, we have tripled performance and storage capacity, while greatly reducing administration time. We evaluated several switching providers, but found the advanced capabilities and value of the Brocade fabric switches too good to pass up."

"M. DuMont Schauberg is typical of many customers who start by moving one application onto the SAN. Once they discover the compelling benefits-higher data availability, faster application performance, and simplified managementthey often decide to move more applications onto this platform," said Jay Kidd, Brocade vice president of Product Marketing. "We are pleased that they have chosen the Brocade SilkWorm 12000 as the foundation for their missioncritical SAN environment."
