CommVault INTRODUCES QNet ENT DATA MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

CommVault Systems Inc, an industry-leading provider of unified enterprise data management solutions, has announced CommVault QiNetix QNet software. QNet software takes the guesswork out of assessing an application's storage consumption for IT management by correlating how an application and changing data management policies impact the total storage environment, all in a consolidated view.

The QNet solution monitors and trends an application's primary storage usage with its nearline, offline and archival storage use. For example, in a Microsoft Exchange environment, IT administrators can map email usage within the Information Store, comparing email usage to nearline and offline storage usage. With that information, they can then create a data management policy that optimizes Exchange server performance, disk capacity, individual mailbox size, and also meets organizational retention requirements. As a result, IT personnel quickly assess situations, make decisions and ensure data is where it needs to be, with minimal human intervention. For customers, this translates to dramatically reduced costs, improved storage capacity utilization and streamlined operations.

"We love QNet software. It rocks," said Doug Lilly, Senior Telecommunications Technologist, Department of Technology and Information, State of Delaware.

"Besides being able to centrally manage storage resources and operations, QNet gives us a quick read on the primary, secondary and offline storage our business applications, like Microsoft Exchange, are consuming, without manually figuring it out. In addition, we can view CommVault Galaxy backup and DataMigrator migration status for Exchange. With this consolidated info, we can fine-tune our storage policies to optimize resources. The end result is better server performance and data availability, all at a minimal cost---key ingredients that keep IT management and end-users very happy."

"Today, customers are faced with tight budgets and the task of integrating disparate software products to manage their data and storage resources," said Bob Hammer, CommVault's chairman and chief executive officer. "QiNetix is the only data and storage management platform that delivers a truly integrated, application-centric solution, not disparate point level products that are glued together on the surface. With QNet, we've extended that capability by providing the foundation for a single command center to control and manage resources, a major stride in achieving a highly automated data center. Our goal was to simplify our customers' environmental complexities and reduce their costs. We did it with QiNetix and made it even more powerful with QNet."

QNet software is tightly integrated with CommVault's QiNetix data management and storage management components (Galaxy backup and recovery, DataMigrator archiving and migration and Quick Recovery data high availability). The QNet solution provides the following additional high-level advantages:

  • Easy Management and Administration: QNet software offers a simple, unified view that easily tracks data and storage resources across the enterprise, department or data center. QNet software captures and summarizes crucial information about primary, secondary and archive storage and the data retention policies that impact its use. Management can make decisions after viewing a browser-based GUI or executive-level reports.
  • Global Management of Backup, Migration and Data High Availability Operations: QNet software provides centralized monitoring and management of CommVault QiNetix components and its related storage resources. Processes can be taken to streamline operations and storage resource utilization to optimize data access, identify trouble spots and initiate corrective actions. The components and elements managed include Galaxy backups and restores; DataMigrator archiving and migration; Quick Recovery snapshots; secondary storage use and allocation; data retention lifecycle characteristics; IT best practices; or precautions to meet compliance requirements.
  • Storage Resource Visualization: with QNet, IT organizations can quickly assess storage utilization of online, nearline and offline storage as a contiguous whole related to a specific application data set. In a GUI or report, QNet software displays the status of devices, like tape libraries, disk drives, disk volumes-all critical pieces of a data management and protection scenario. Status regarding everyday issues such as which jobs and operations succeeded, which failed, how much storage is being consumed by data management operations, protection status of specific data sets, potential data availability in case of disaster, and trend information for the storage environment can be determined quickly to guide necessary actions to change, correct or improve operations.

QiNetix QNet software is available today, priced per backup server or production host. Pricing starts at $1000 or $1500, depending on configuration. For more information, contact CommVault Systems at info@commvault.com.
