OBJECTIVE DATA STORAGE INTRODUCES FILELINK USS 3.0

Objective Data Storage announced the launch of Filelink USS version 3.0, a platform independent optical storage management solution for jukebox libraries and desktop optical devices. The new offering continues the expansion of Objective Data Storage's Filelink product family and is key to driving additional revenue and market share for the Company. Filelink USS 3.0 is targeted at companies with permanent record management and regulatory issues. "The regulatory and compliance issues are impacting many industries. Objective Data Storage's Filelink USS 3.0 helps IT professionals seamlessly and efficiently manage compliant record retention on optical media," states Peter A. Garr, Senior Research Analyst of Boston-based Enterprise Storage Group.

Available through Objective Data Storage's USDesign business unit and independent value-added resellers, Filelink USS 3.0 provides users the option of initializing the media surface and adding its metadata to the internal database; thereby improving read requests for directory hierarchy transversal on the media surface. This functionality greatly improves performance when accessing jukebox volumes via NT Explorer or API function calls for read requests to the metadata.

"Our organization historically has held a leadership position in the optical storage market," said Boyce "Mac" McCorkle, president and CEO of Objective Data Storage. "With the launch of Filelink USS 3.0 we continue to expand distribution by offering our customers increased functionality at reasonable prices." The following is a brief description of the new offering.

Filelink USS 3.0

  • Platform independent, optical storage management software solution.
  • Enables caching of directories and file headers (metadata), optimizing performance for read requests.
  • Flexible architecture comprised of four modules allowing growth for future requirements: Media Changer Module transparently controls, monitors, schedules and moves media in a jukebox; File System Module provides a unique method of reading supported file systems by scanning the surface of the optical media and interpreting the embedded format; Network Interface Module provides access to optical drives using standard network protocols; Web Maintenance Module provides real-time information gathering, tracking and reporting.
  • Supported environments: Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 or higher; Windows 2000 Server or Workstation; Tru64 UNIX 4.0d, 4.0e, 4.0f, 5.0, 5.1a; Solaris SunOS 5.7,5.8,5.9 (32 and 64-bit); RedHat Linux 7.2,7.3,8.0, OpenVMS Alpha 7.2 or higher.
