TAEC ANNOUNCES 2-GIGABIT NAND FEATURING AUTO-ERASE AND MORE

Continuing its commitment to offer an aggressive NAND flash roadmap that reduces the cost-per-bit and increases performance, Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc (TAEC) announced the availability of a high-capacity 2 gigabit (Gb) single level cell NAND flash device developed by Toshiba Corp (Toshiba). The new 2Gb NAND, designated TH58NVG1S3A, stacks two 1Gb single level cell devices in one package and is a serial-type memory device that automatically executes the erase and program operations making it ideal for solid-state file storage, voice recording, image file memory for still cameras and other applications requiring high-performance embedded memory at an attractive cost per bit.

The new device also features a large page size of 2 kilobytes (KB) for increased program performance and a large block size of 128KB for increased erase performance. Due to its larger page size, the device is capable of programming four times the amount of data as previous small block NAND devices within the same programming time per page.

"The automatic program and erase features coupled with the large block size and fast access times make this device an attractive solution for the growing group of file storage applications."

The new device is a 3.3 volt (V) NAND flash organized as (2048 + 64) bytes x 64 pages x 2048 blocks, and is fabricated using Toshiba's advanced 0.13 micron process technology. It features a 2112-byte static register allowing program and read data to be transferred between the register and the memory cell array in 2112-byte increments. The device also has the capability to implement the erase operation as a single block unit of 128 kilobytes + 4 kilobytes and utilizes the I/O pins for both address and data input/output as well as for command inputs.
