Features - Enterprise Data Insights:THE SNIA USHERS IN NEW LEADERS FOR 2003-2004The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) recently announced the newest members to assume leadership positions for the SNIA Board of Directors, SNIA Europe (SNIA-E) Governing Committee, and the Supported Solutions Forum (SSF). The SNIA recently appointed three industry veterans to fill vacant board seats on the SNIA Board of Directors. New Board members include: Roger Reich, senior technical director, VERITAS Software Corporation; Scott Carson, Ph.D., chief technology officer, IMS Systems Inc; and Ray Dunn, business development manager, Sun Microsystems Inc. Dr. Carson is appointed to a two-year term, while Reich and Dunn are appointed to fill out terms ending this fall. All three members will help oversee the organization's vision and mission, including strategic planning, membership development, marketing and public relations, technical output, and operational planning. Reich, a 22-year leading authority in the data storage industry, is a founder of the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC), founder of the Storage Performance Council, chairman of the SNIA Storage Management Initiative (SMI), and a Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) board member. Dr. Carson has an extensive background within the storage industry, serving as a founder of Tracer Technologies, and leading research and development at both OTG Software Inc and Bakbone Software. He plans to work closely with the Education Committee, particularly in the area of certification, and initiate new programs designed specifically for the VAR and integrator communities. Dunn offers his expertise in storage management and marketing prowess as a new Board of Directors member. He has several years of experience within the SNIA, and is currently the marketing chair of the SNIA Storage Management Forum. SNIA-E also welcomes a newly elected Governing Committee to oversee its strategic and tactical operations, firmly cementing the recent merger of both the SNIA-E and the Fibre Channel Industry Association Europe (FCIA-E). The SNIA-E and FCIA-E members jointly nominated the candidates to ensure that the needs of both industry bodies are fully represented. Chair members of the new SNIA-E Governing Committee include: Paul Talbut of HPS Technologies Limited, chairman; Jason Phippen of VERITAS Software, vice chairman; Ian Lockhart of Ideal Enterprise Solutions, secretary; and Peter Coleman of Infinity I/O Inc, treasurer. Newly elected committee members include: Gill Borniche of Legato Systems Inc; Philippe Fosse of StorageTek (Storage Technology Corp); Andy Litherland of ACAL Fibre Channel Solutions; Axel Luedecke of MTI Technology Corp; Malte Rademacher of EMC Deutschland GmbH; Daniel Sazbon of IBM; Robert Thurnhofer of Computer Associates International Inc; Paul Trowbridge of Brocade Communications Systems Inc; and Alan Wallman of Emulex Corporation. About the SNIA Supported Solutions ForumThe Supported Solutions Forum (SSF) is a group of companies within the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) that promotes customer adoption of open storage networking solutions by encouraging vendors to work together and deliver to customers mutually supported, interoperable solutions. In support of SNIA goals, the highly innovative SSF was established in June of 2001, so that SNIA members could improve storage networking interoperability through solutions jointly developed and qualified by Forum members. Each Supported Solution is cooperatively supported by sponsoring Forum members to provide a streamlined customer support process for the end-user company. Visit the SSF Web site at www.snia.org/ssf.
