UDO FORUM SIGNALS ARRIVAL OF NEW ARCHIVE STORAGE TECH

Plasmon, a market leader for professional data archival solutions, kicked off the next step in the future of archival data storage recently by convening the UDO Developers Conference. A new high-density optical media and drive technology, Ultra Density Optical (UDO) provides a new standard for long term archival storage.

Leading storage ISVs (Independent Software Vendor), developers and partners joined Plasmon in Colorado Springs, Colorado for three days of intensive UDO education and training. Presented by Plasmon and Hewlett Packard, the education and training is aimed at the general introduction of UDO in the fourth quarter.

"UDO represents a significant advance in optical drive and media technology for developers of archival and data storage solutions," said George Symons, Chief Technology Officer at Legato Systems Inc. "Its introduction is extremely well timed, as international regulatory compliance requirements focus on permanent, long term storage and access of critical data."

Demonstrated to overwhelming response at AIIM 2003, where it was awarded "Best of AIIM" by Transform Magazine, UDO Write Once and Rewritable technologies represent a major breakthrough in optical storage. Offering true permanent archival for data compliance and initial capacities of 30 gigabytes per disc, UDO provides a multi-generational roadmap to 60GB, then 120GB and higher capacities in future generations.

"It's a very exciting event for Plasmon and a great advance for the storage industry," said Nigel Street, Plasmon Chief Executive. "The UDO Conference signals the first step in the launch of this new technology, which will change the economics of archive storage."
