SISTINA SOFTWARE AND CommVault FORGE OEM RELATIONSHIP

Sistina Software, a premier storage infrastructure software company delivering data-sharing solutions, and CommVault Systems Inc, a leading provider of unified enterprise data management solutions, recently announced that they have entered into an OEM relationship to integrate Sistina's file services and volume management software with CommVault's data protection products. The partnership will mark the Linux industry's first integration of foundation level (file and block) storage software with enterprise level data protection software for high performance, clustered, Intel-bladed environments.

"As the role of Linux continues to expand within the enterprise, our strategic partnership with Sistina will allow us to deliver industrial-strength enterprise storage tools that are essential to its broad acceptance," said Al Bunte, senior vice president of CommVault Systems. "Robust data-sharing and data protection are key components that fully leverage Linux-based blade and modular storage architectures within the enterprise. Sistina's expertise with Linux volume management and file system software are invaluable assets in our efforts to bring today's cutting-edge functionality to tomorrow's storage infrastructures."

The OEM alliance demonstrates both companies' commitment to fulfilling customer demands by offering enhanced storage software features on Linux. A joint solution offering will be created combining CommVault's QiNetix data management solutions with Sistina GFS (Global File System) and LVM (Logical Volume Manager), delivering enterprise-class storage management functionality with outstanding price/performance benefits. In addition, Sistina and CommVault will provide integrated support and service offerings for all customers requiring a reliable, cost-effective, and highly scalable data-management solution.

"Linux is rapidly becoming a widely accepted commercial platform, and as such needs to have tightly integrated data management functions such as backup," said Steve Kenniston, technology analyst for Enterprise Storage Group. "Integrating the CommVault solution suite with the Sistina file system provides a robust solution that commercial applications require."

"Historically, the integration of file and block data services into data protection software has proven critical for the adoption of operating system platforms into mission-critical environments. Today, Sistina and CommVault are proud to be the first to announce these integrated services for Linux," said Joaquin Ruiz, vice president of marketing and product management at Sistina Software. "The Sistina-CommVault offering will further accelerate the deployment of Linux into the data center, especially for blade architectures for which scalable data-sharing services are absolutely mandatory."

Sistina's storage infrastructure software is the foundation for building, integrating and deploying data-sharing storage solutions across the enterprise. Sistina GFS enables organizations to consolidate existing server and storage resources into a single management domain, linking diverse data storage repositories into a scalable, secure and robust storage area network. Sistina LVM supports enterprise-level volume management of disk and disk subsystems by grouping arbitrary disks into volume groups, which can then be accessed as regular block devices. Implemented in product sites around the world, LVM is the de facto volume manager distributed in the Linux 2.4 kernel and will be included as a standard component in the Linux 2.6 kernel.

CommVault's data protection products are included in the CommVault QiNetix data management software suite. To protect data, QiNetix delivers high performance and scalable data backup and recovery, data high availability and storage management to ensure maximum data access in complex storage networks. QiNetix includes a Common Technology Engine (CTE) that provides a centralized browser interface and policy management, powerful data movement and flexible media management.
