Toshiba Publishes New NAND Flash Applications Design Guide

To further assist engineers in determining the appropriate flash memory solution for their designs, Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc (TAEC) announced that it has published its comprehensive NAND Flash Applications Design Guide. The new guide provides a history of Flash memory as well as assistance in working with Flash, making a NOR versus NAND decision and instructions for using NAND Flash in targeted applications. Available in a printed version or as a downloadable PDF, TAEC's NAND Flash Applications Design Guide is free and can be requested by registering at the company's Web site at NANDdesign.toshiba.com.

The guide offers practical information in understanding the NAND Flash interface, small versus large block NAND, and NAND management guidance, including working with error correcting code. There are also tips for using external controllers and software plus considerations for memory cards and preprogramming NAND.

"Our goal with this NAND design guide is to continue to provide exceptional engineering support to our customers and enable system designers to more easily integrate NAND Flash into their product designs," said Scott Nelson, business development director of memory products for TAEC.
