Features - Storage Innovations:MACRONIX INTRODUCES HIGH-DENSITY 64MB FLASHMacronix introduced its first 64Mb NOR-based single voltage Flash operating at 3V with access times as fast as 90ns. The devices are offered in x8 and x16 organizations in boot sector and uniform sector configurations. These devices with random sector accessibility are ideal solutions for today's "code-rich" applications such as satellite set-top boxes, advanced PDAs, networking equipment and high-end servers. "Overall Flash revenues are expected to reach $10.8 billion this year with the 64Mb NOR part commanding around 8 percent market share," stated Alan Niebel, CEO of Web-Feet Research. "With Macronix entering the 64Mb density segment, customers now have a clear choice for a cost-effective, high density NOR Flash solution." The devices (MX29LV640T/B, MX29LV640U, MX29LV065, MX28F640C3) are manufactured at the Macronix fabrication facility in Taiwan utilizing 0.18-micron process technology. The parts fully comply with JEDEC industry-standard software commands, pin-outs and package types of 48-TSOP, 63-Ball CSP and 64-Ball Easy BGA. With 20-year data retention, a minimum endurance of 100,000 cycles, low-power consumption and an erase time of 45s/chip, the parts ensure high-reliability and flexibility over the life of the devices. These devices can be programmed, read and erased over a power-supply voltage range of 2.7V to 3.6V, operating across the temperature range of minus 40 C to 85 C. "Macronix continues to expand our Flash product line in order to offer our customers a full range of cost-effective NVM products," said Alan Portnoy, president of Macronix America. "Our strategy is to broaden our line of industry-standard products while continuing to develop value-added solutions for our key customers." Samples are available now with production volume in September 2003. The introduction of these 64Mb Flash products extends Macronix's offering within the "LV" and "C3" product families. Pricing for quantities of 10,000 units is $6.95 |
