Microsoft In Partnership For Data Analysis Tools In India

Microsoft Corp has teamed up with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and India's Tata Consultancy Services to offer smart data analysis solutions to companies in India.

Microsoft officials told a news conference on Thursday they estimated the Indian market for such solutions or "business intelligence software" that analyzes data faster to be worth $30-35 million a year by 2005.

"It is reasonable for us to look at 35-40 percent of that market," said Sanjiv Mathur, group marketing manager at Microsoft Corp India Pvt Ltd.

The software firm, which competes with companies such as SAP AG and Oracle Corp for such solutions, said India's banking and financial services, insurance, manufacturing and retail industries would be its target markets.

These segments handle a large volume of customer transactions and use information technology to manage them.

Microsoft, in India since 1990 where it also operates a software development center, said the global market for business intelligence software is forecast to jump to $12 billion by 2005, according to industry research firm International Data Corp.

It said the Asia-Pacific market for business intelligence software would be worth $1.0 billion by 2007, of which India and China would account for 35-40 percent.
