Top Of The News - Apps & Analytics:Netezza Doubles Speed And Triples Capacity For Data ApplianceNetezza Corporation unveiled two new configurations and other innovations for the Netezza Performance Server (NPS) enterprise-class data appliance that double the speed and triple the data capacity for companies that need fast, on-demand analysis of terabytes of business-critical information. The new NPS 8450 and 8650 configurations in the Netezza 8000 line of data appliances are designed for Business Intelligence (BI) on large or consolidated data marts, increasing the available user data storage to 18TB and 27TB respectively (total storage of 54TB and 81TB). Even at these larger data sizes, Netezza has more than doubled the performance of sophisticated BI and data analysis from 10 to 20 times to 10 to 50 times the speed of existing general-purpose solutions. "During the past several months, some of the largest, most demanding enterprises have harnessed their exploding data and reduced their Business Intelligence costs with the Netezza Performance Server appliance," said Jit Saxena, co-founder and CEO of Netezza. "Netezza's extended line of appliances continues to deliver previously impossible or unaffordable Business Intelligence analyses at a fraction of the cost of the traditional patchwork of enterprise data warehouse technologies." In addition to these two new configurations, Netezza announced version 2.0.1 of its software, delivering additional performance enhancements for new and existing NPS users. Combined with the new configurations, these software enhancements double the performance of NPS systems to 10 to 50 times that of existing solutions, expand multi-user concurrency and deliver even faster data loads and analysis of time-ordered queries. "Last year Netezza launched its data appliance for Business Intelligence which allows companies to run complex, ad-hoc queries on large data volumes. At current price points the NPS appliance has provided considerable improvements in processing speed for companies that have implemented the appliance," said Henry Morris, group vice president of Applications and Information Access at IDC. "With the introduction of these new configurations, Netezza has further increased the storage capacity, data loading and query processing speeds of the NPS appliance, enabling improvements in data management productivity and decision-making processes." Netezza also announced that the J. Craig Venter Science Foundation is beta testing a new NPS model with software functionality designed specifically for the bioinformatics market. Details on this simultaneous announcement can be found at www.netezza.com/news/releases/release20.html. The NPS system combines servers, storage and database into a single powerful, enterprise-class appliance created from the outset to process queries faster -- and enable complex analysis that was not previously possible because of large and fast-growing data sizes. This unprecedented analysis on oceans of information enables companies to harness information located in tens, even hundreds of terabytes of data in order to recover lost revenues, improve risk management, reduce fraud, compress decision cycles and strengthen customer relationships. The NPS 8000 series, including the 8450 and 8650, is available immediately. Pricing for the NPS 8000 series begins at $622,000. |
