RAIDTEC LAUNCHES SNAZ OS v.3.0

Raidtec Corp, a world leader in open NAS and SAN Storage Networking, announced the release of SNAZ OS 3.0, Raidtec's third generation NAS Operating System that powers the popular SNAZ range of NAS filers and seamless integrated NAS and SAN head end appliances.

"Sales of Raidtec's SNAZ E series NAS solutions have more than trebled over the last 12 months due to more feature rich and cost effective solutions", stated Bill Bedford, vice president of Raidtec USA. "The market has matured and we see growing interest and investment in high function high availability Storage Networks comprising both NAS and SAN capabilities. Raidtec has taken a leadership role in bringing enterprise class performance and features to the SMB market at prices suited to departmental and SMB budgets."

SNAZ OS 3.0 delivers a comprehensive new release with many improved features to benefit both users and administrators. The release of SNAZ OS 3.0 will enable users of Raidtec's Intel-based NAS product range to gain immediate benefit from the main new features including:

  • Logical Volume Manager -- allows multiple volumes to be created from a physical storage pool. Each logical volume has it's own file system and can be shared to Windows or NFS clients using different access rights.
  • Snapshot -- One or more snapshots can be taken of each logical volume. Snapshot volumes can be shared to network clients just like normal volumes but they are always read only. Snapshot volumes can be used to perform backups to tape while the live volume continues to be accessible, to instantly recover corrupted or accidentally deleted data or to create offline reports on volume usage. An integrated snapshot scheduler allows snapshots to be automatically repeated at regular intervals.
  • LAN Adapter Fault Tolerance -- Any two SNAZ network ports can be combined in a team to provide redundant network paths. If the primary path fails, the second port will automatically take over. If the primary path is restored, the system fails back to the primary port. Only one port is active at the same time. Fail-over and fail-back is totally transparent on the external network.
  • Tape Autoloader Support -- SNAZ OS includes a new integrated tape backup application that provides support for a wide range of tape backup devices including autoloaders and libraries.
  • Worm (write once, read many) Function -- Each logical Volume can be designated as a WORM volume. This allows files to be written once to the volume and subsequently they become read-only. They cannot be modified or deleted. This is very useful for applications such as storing medical images where it is important to ensure the files are not inadvertently changed or deleted.

Raidtec's midrange NAS File Servers are ideally suited for applications in Work Group, Small Business, Departmental, and Branch Office environments that can scale from 50 to 300 users in easy to manage increments. Capacity can now scale from 300GB to multiple Terabytes with faster set up and install.

Raidtec products are sold worldwide through a network of highly qualified Distributors and VARs. On site installation and service is provided by Raidtec throughout the United States and Europe and is available through select distributors in other regions throughout the rest of the world.
