DISKEEPER ADMINISTRATOR REINS IN FRAGMENTATION

Executive Software has announced the release of the new Diskeeper Administrator version, giving system administrators the ability to handle performance problems from their desk. Diskeeper Administrator also allows greatly expanded centralized network control, detailed reports and automatic alerts for dangerously low free space and disk corruption problems.

"Diskeeper Administrator gives system administrators the ability to keep networks running at peak performance without the need to run from system to system or give users unnecessary privileges", said George Goodrich, Diskeeper product line manager. "Diskeeper allows administrators the pro-activity they so desperately need, giving them true 'Set it and Forget It' functionality."

Diskeeper is the first defragmenter to quantify the effects of fragmentation on performance of both Windows workstations and servers. Diskeeper enables system administrators to be proactive in maintaining system performance. Diskeeper even alerts system administrators when it encounters potential data corruption with an email detailing the exact machine and the problems found.

Disk defragmentation cripples system performance while also causing needless wear and tear on disk drives. According to IDC, "Although many companies acknowledge that file fragmentation is a fact of life on most modern distributed systems, few are aware of just how much it is costing the bottom line in terms of lost performance and downtime."

According to IDC, costs of handling fragmentation manually, like using the built-in rather than a network defragmenter, ranged from $25,000 for 10 systems to well over a million dollars a year for 5,000 workstations and supporting servers.

Diskeeper 8.0 ships as specialized editions designed for each "flavor" of the Windows 2003 server platform and for desktop editions from Windows 95 and upwards.
