Features - Storage Innovations:QUANTUM DLTIce ALLOWS COMPLIANCE-READY TAPE DRIVE FUNCTIONALITYQuantum Corp announced immediate availability of tape drive enhancements that enable customers to easily and instantly meet regulatory compliance standards utilizing the SDLT 600 platform. DLTIce, an extension of the award-winning DLTSage architecture, provides customers WORM (Write Once, Read Many) archival functionality with a complete set of management tools and strong software support. DLTIce makes the SDLT 600 the first super drive that can utilize standard media for both traditional backup and archive as well as for regulatory compliance. Companies in data intensive industries such as financial services, pharmaceutical and life sciences, as well as governmental bodies, face a tremendous burden to comply with a variety of numerous regulations regarding data retention, including those mandated under Sarbanes Oxley, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and SEC Rule 17a-4. As a result, IT administrators are urgently looking for solutions to ensure their information systems and records can be archived simply and securely. With today's announcement, Quantum has responded to this need, adding to its broad portfolio of tape and disk-based products and services for backup, recovery and archive -- the cornerstone of an effective compliance framework. "Government regulations and corporate policy often call for the storage of certain archival data in a non-rewritable, non-updateable format," said Robert Amatruda, research manager at IDC. "DLTIce provides Quantum customers a cost-effective means to meet this important requirement." Quantum's Secure Solution DLTIce provides multiple layers of security to assure compliance. Starting with the media itself, the DLTIce WORM capability places an electronic key on each tape to ensure WORM integrity. This unique identifier, which cannot be altered, provides a tamper-proof archived tape version that meets stringent compliance requirements to ensure data integrity, full accessibility and reliable duplication. At the IT administrator level, DLTSage -- Quantum's award-winning suite of predictive and preventative management tools -- enables DLTIce functionality and verifies system integrity. This combination of DLTSage and DLTIce allows IT administrators to address the five elements of regulatory compliance: integrity protection, accessibility, duplication, migration and auditing. "Compliance depends on effective backup, recovery and archive solutions that maximize long-term value," said Steve Berens, director of product marketing and strategy for the Quantum Storage Devices Business Unit. "DLTIce extends Quantum's leadership by offering IT administrators simple compliance-ready archiving products with leading reliability, performance and value." DLTIce functionality is available at no additional charge and will ship with all future Super DLTtape solutions. DLTIce is now available for download to field-installed SDLT 600 tape drives. Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) Provide Broad Market Support For DLTIce As companies review their storage environments for compliance readiness, their ISVs are turning to solutions such as DLTIce to simplify the archival process seamlessly and cost-effectively in customers' environments. Prominent ISVs including Arkeia Corp, CommVault Systems, Computer Associates, EMC LEGATO, Novastor, Yosemite and VERITAS have committed support to DLTIce, to provide their customers with the WORM capability best suited for compliance. |
