EMC DELIVERS NEW CONTENT INTEGRATION SOFTWARE

EMC Corp announced the immediate availability of EMC Documentum Enterprise Content Integration (ECI) Services, a software product that enables users to discover, access and assimilate structured and unstructured information from multiple internal and external sources, in multiple languages, with one query. Through a single sign on and easy-to-use interface, Documentum ECI Services enables integration of heterogeneous content -- from enterprise applications, databases, content management systems and groupware to Internet sources, such as web search engines, industry-specific databases, local archives, government portals and syndicated content providers. Powerful analytics capabilities enable end-users to quickly access and analyze the results of their queries, saving enormous time researching across multilingual content sources.

Documentum ECI Services is a key part of the EMC's virtual repository strategy that enables customers to discover and manage unstructured content wherever it resides. Already in use across a range of industries, including education, government, life sciences, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and publishing, Documentum ECI Services simplifies and accelerates information-intensive activities such as research and development, competitive intelligence, monitoring of regulatory affairs, and intellectual property management. In developing Documentum ECI Services, EMC incorporated technology acquired from the askOnce business unit of Xerox Corp.

Berlex Laboratories Inc, a U.S. affiliate of Schering AG Germany, is a biopharmaceutical company that makes diagnostic imaging products and specialty medicines for women's health, multiple sclerosis, cancer, heart disease, and dermatology. "EMC Documentum Enterprise Content Integration Services is a great approach to discovering and aggregating content. Scientists and other R&D personnel can reap new levels of efficiency by assimilating information from research medical sites such as PubMed and the FDA.gov, and content from our existing deployments of Documentum and Lotus Notes databases," said Charlie Sodano, manager of information services for Berlex Laboratories. "The product's multilingual support is of particular interest, as many of our scientists review publications and sources in multiple languages."

In keeping with EMC's strategy of providing open software offerings, Documentum ECI Services can be used in conjunction with the Documentum Enterprise Content Management platform, with other content management products or as a standalone tool.

• Personalized Relevancy Ranking: Users can rank the applicability of results, and the product automatically adjusts subsequent searches for more precise results.
• Content Snapshot: Key sentences are automatically extracted to create an abstract of each source, giving users an overview, without opening a specific document.
• Dynamic Linguistic Contextual Clustering: Search results are automatically grouped into categories, based on similar words and phrases, enabling users to review results by concepts and find targeted information quickly.
• Secure Real-time Information Access: Documentum ECI Services leverages the existing indices and access policies defined in the target search engines and repositories to deliver the most up-to-date information to users, and to enforce existing access restrictions.
• Scalable, Extensible Architecture: Additional information sources, including complex proprietary applications, can be easily integrated through core and optional adapters, and an integrated development environment simplifies building additional adapters.
