Features - Financial Plays Of The Week:MOUNTAIN VIEW DATA, RACKABLE SYSTEMS SOLIDIFY OEM RELATIONSHIPMountain View Data Inc (MVD) and Rackable Systems Inc announced a formal OEM agreement and relationship that will enable the delivery of Mountain View Data's storage software integrated into Rackable Systems' new Network Attached Storage (NAS) server. The resulting NAS appliance will be available through Rackable Systems' worldwide sales channels. MVD and Rackable Systems have customized, tested and tightly integrated the software and hardware for optimal performance. Software features include file-system level snapshots, online file system expansion, hardware and software RAID, support for Unix, Linux, Windows and Macintosh clients, and a web-based user interface. "Until recently Mountain View Data has focused on the Japanese market, so we view our relationship with Rackable Systems as an opportunity to bring MVD's technology onto the world stage," said Cliff Miller, CEO of Mountain View Data. "At the same time we're looking forward to becoming Rackable Systems' one-two software punch." "As part of our process in designing a value-added SATA-based NAS system, Mountain View Data's solution provided exactly what we'd been looking for," said Geoffrey Noer, senior director of storage products at Rackable Systems. "Equipped with their fully-integrated NAS software layer, the S3116-NAS server features a level of functionality and ease of manageability not found in traditional Windows and Linux-based file servers." Mountain View Data's MVD Powered NAS software first shipped in late 2001, and is in use at over 500 corporate sites. |
