PC Week has reported that Andyne Computing Ltd. and Hummingbird Communications Ltd. are joining forces to deliver enterprise data warehousing products. The proposed merger, worth approximately $60 million, will result in Andyne, of Kingston, Ontario, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Hummingbird. The transaction will be accounted for as a pooling of interests.
The merger is expected to allow Andyne to benefit from Hummingbird's financial resources as well as its distributor, reseller and VAR channels. For its part, Hummingbird will be able to enter the data warehousing and decision support market segment.
Andyne's line of decision support software includes the Andyne GQL query tool, GQL Reports and Pablo desktop online analytical processing tool. Hummingbird's NFS Maestro IP software for Windows 95 and NT gives Windows clients access to online transaction processing applications residing on mainframes or Unix machines.
"Andyne's data warehousing applications provide analysis of this same data, naturally complementing our connectivity applications," said Fred Sorkin, CEO of Hummingbird, in North York, Ontario, in a release.
