Red Brick Systems has announced that HBS International, Inc. (HBSI) replaced an existing data warehouse database with Red Brick to help improve business and increase growth. HBSI, a leading provider of comparative healthcare outcomes information, found that Red Brick Warehouse, Red Brick's relational database management system designed from the ground up for data warehousing, provides greater scalability and overall performance for its complex data warehouse architecture. HBSI expects that the use of Red Brick will reduce its data warehouse cost of ownership, help improve services to its clients and provide significant growth potential.
"We have an enormous opportunity to provide comparative healthcare information on performance outcomes that ultimately helps physicians choose better treatments and healthcare organizations better manage their costs, but our system needs to be top-notch in order to provide that information accurately and on a timely basis," said Gregg Bennett, CEO of HBS International, Inc. "We believe Red Brick provides the edge in database performance that we were unable to get with our previous database. We expect our partnership with Red Brick will help us attain our growth potential and meet the demand for comparative information where our products and services provide the right solutions to healthcare organizations."
"Companies with complex data, such as healthcare organizations, need partners who can identify how to optimize that data to help improve their business goals," said Chris Erickson, president and CEO of Red Brick. "This is not simply a technology fit. This is a combination of industry expertise, application of the appropriate technology and the desire to work together for a common goal--bottom line success. HBSI demands the best in data warehouse performance and we intend to provide it."
Since its inception as a company in 1991, HBSI has been focused on building a large comparative database that integrates all aspects of healthcare outcomes including operational efficiency, cost, quality, functional status and patient satisfaction. HBSI's data warehouse is considered one of the largest clinical and financial databases in the nation, with data drawn from a large number of its 800 clients including hospitals, physicians and other healthcare organizations.
The data warehouse enables HBSI member hospitals to evaluate patient care at the transaction level and link individual patient events to clinical outcomes. This gives the hospitals the ability to compare their services to similar services of other hospitals. They can then make strategic decisions regarding outcomes, length of stay and costs that ultimately enhance their operational and clinical performance.
HBSI's products and future business hinge on its data warehouse performance. "We discovered that we were restrained in terms of database growth with our previous database. It was unable to scale to the levels we anticipated reaching with our business goals," explained Greg Heitlauf, vice president of Development at HBSI.
"We brought in Red Brick and benchmarked it against the existing database's data models. Without even tuning the data warehouse for Red Brick, the performance improvement in loading times, query speed and scalability was incredible," added Heitlauf. "We're convinced that with Red Brick's technology and its superior support and services, we've got a great business partner who will help us reach our business goals."
