Data-Warehouse Suite for Retail Industry
ACTION ITEMS
Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) and Red Brick Systems, Inc. have announced plans to provide an integrated data-warehousing suite of hardware, software, solutions and services designed specifically to improve retail business decision-making.
The integrated data-warehousing suite is expected to provide highly scalable solutions for building, deploying and extending retail decision-support applications. Retail organizations will be able to integrate point-of-sale, finance and merchandising; assess supply-chain productivity and performance; and enhance forecasting and operational capabilities. These enhancements are expected to result in superior price/performance, increased business value and return on investment in retailer decision-support environments.
Additionally, HP and Red Brick announced plans to enable retailers to evaluate suite components. The companies intend to jointly establish and manage a performance-benchmark center to evaluate system performance using suite components. The performance-benchmark center will enable retail customers to run and test existing decision-support applications up to and exceeding one 1TB of raw data on the newest versions of HP and Red Brick products.
The companies also intend to introduce Red Brick's server-integrated data-mining product, Red Brick Data Mine, as one of the data-mining solutions available in HP's data-mining center in Rockville, Md. Retail customers who require sophisticated data-mining and analytical support will be invited to use the HP data-mining center to evaluate the newest versions of combined HP and Red Brick data-mining solutions.
In addition to their own products, HP and Red Brick provide expertise and support in implementing retail decision-support applications through their respective professional-services organizations. Retail organizations can benefit from HP's and Red Brick's extensive experience in data warehousing and from their business partnerships with other leading data-management tool and services providers worldwide.
HP provides RISC-based, UNIX system server platforms that support computing environments ranging from small workgroups to thousands of users in a mainframe-class data center. The HP 9000 Enterprise Server family is designed to deliver performance, scalability and availability as required by the most demanding environments.
Red Brick offers a comprehensive platform of integrated software products designed specifically to build, deploy and query up to large, complex data warehouses. The core of Red Brick's product platform is Red Brick Warehouse, its high-performance relational-database-management system.
