Decision-ism Deploys Objectivity Within Aclue Decision Supportware
ACTION ITEMS

Objectivity, Inc., a leading provider of distributed, scalable object databases, has announced that its flagship product, Objectivity/DB, has been selected by Decision-ism, Inc. of Boulder, Colorado for inclusion within its Aclue Decision Supportware. Objectivity/DB's advanced distributed architecture handles huge databases, spread across many heterogeneous servers, while providing a single logical view of the federated database. Objectivity/DB is deployed in many of the world's most demanding database applications within 25% of the Fortune 100 and Global 100 companies.

Aclue Decision Supportware from Decision-ism delivers on-line analytical processing (OLAP) data mart management. Aclue helps organizations gather, cleanse, transform and aggregate data from one or more production applications and/or data warehouses. Aclue then exports this data into smaller, focused data marts that suit the specific needs of individuals or groups of users. Aclue exports directly into Arbor Software's Essbase or Oracle's Express multidimensional OLAP cubes.

Based on a central Business Information Model, Aclue serves as an information broker and ensures consistent and synchronized data delivery to multiple data marts via a "read-once, write-many" architecture. Objectivity/DB is used as the staging area to hold both the business information model (metadata) as well as the imported data. Cubes are then exported from the data collected in Objectivity/DB. Aclue's audit/drillback facilities, which allow business users to view data logistics and the detail that is aggregated within cells of their cube, also dynamically access Objectivity/DB. Every license of Aclue includes Objectivity/DB as an embedded component. A CORBA broker provides connectivity between Aclue's C++ server and 100% pure Java client modules.

"The data mart and data warehousing markets have traditionally been dominated by relational database products that have proven to be resource and maintenance intensive, with delayed access to critical information," said David Caplan, president and CEO of Objectivity, Inc. "Aclue customers benefit from the speed, flexibility, and transparency of Objectivity/DB as Aclue delivers OLAP cubes, while requiring minimal maintenance and administrative overhead," added Caplan.

"Aclue Decision Supportware is now in production within major Arbor and Oracle customer sites such as AirTouch International and Duke Communications," said Rob Vonderhaar, vice president of marketing for Decision-ism. "Decision-ism has recognized that Objectivity/DB's inherent support for the efficient storage and rapid, flexible manipulation of multidimensional data make it uniquely suited to serve as the staging area within Aclue. Objectivity/DB is a critical underlying technology within Aclue, helping us to best meet the needs of our customers."

Decision-ism, Inc., develops and markets data mart management software that gathers and transforms data from various sources -- operational systems, source applications, data warehouses, into focused OLAP data marts that support decision-making by business professionals. Decision-ism's flagship product is Aclue Decision Supportware. Aclue allows organizations to leverage their investment in Arbor's Essbase or Oracle's Express by delivering consistent, clean, high-quality data marts that handle individual needs. With its support for rapid data mart prototyping and centralized management and generation of OLAP cubes, Aclue reduces IS workload while increasing users' confidence in the data.
