Influence Software, Inc. has announced that it has formed an alliance with Silicon Graphics (SGI) to deliver a complete web-based business intelligence solution. The unique offering will fully integrate data mining, data visualization, reporting, querying, and online analytical processing (OLAP) in a web-based solution designed for the manufacturing vertical market. The joint product rollout is expected to occur in late Q2, 1998 with the integration of Silicon Graphics MineSet, a data mining and data visualization tool suite, into Influence Aperio, a web-based knowledge automation solution.

The combined offering of MineSet and Aperio's OLAP and knowledge management capabilities will allow customers to access, analyze, securely distribute, and quickly comprehend critical corporate information and will support the Silicon Graphics 64-bit Origin servers. The Influence Software joint effort with Silicon Graphics expands Silicon Graphics' presence in the business-to-business solutions marketplace. With a focus on the manufacturing industry, the combined Silicon Graphics and Influence solution is expected to increase the information management, analysis, and reporting capabilities for corporate data warehouses and data marts.

The business intelligence solution will enable users to integrate with some of the leading enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications providers such as SAP and Baan. "We are very pleased to work together with Silicon Graphics to deliver solutions that make corporate information more widely accessible and less expensive to use," said John Ghashghai, vice-president of product development, Influence Software. "Aperio is designed to be accessible from all levels, whether users are executive decision-makers, data analysts, or database administrators. The integrated OLAP and knowledge management features of Aperio combined with Silicon Graphics data mining and visualization tools will bring the first comprehensive web-based information management solution to the marketplace."

"Silicon Graphics is extending its level of commitment to our strategic computing customers by creating a best-of-breed data warehousing and data mining solution through the integration of Aperio and MineSet," said Ihab Abu-Hakima, vice president and general manager, Business Computing Division, Silicon Graphics. "Aperio enables end users to accelerate their deployment of a data warehouse while also reducing costs of this deployment. Through this fully integrated solution, Aperio will provide end users with an easy to use web-based application and accessibility through any standard web browser."

MineSet 2.5 is Silicon Graphics' flagship product for data mining and visualization. MineSet enables the user to gain deeper and more intuitive understanding of data by helping to discover hidden patterns, important trends, and new knowledge. MineSet integrates data access, data transformation, and analytic and 3D visual data mining. It also supports direct access to Oracle, Informix and Sybase databases as well as flat files.

Specifically built for Internet computing, Aperio is a web-based knowledge automation solution. Aperio provides information analysis, querying, reporting, and distribution capabilities from within a standard browser. Aperio is Java-based, and leverages existing corporate environments. Designed for the large-scale corporate environment, Aperio scales to thousands of users, provides a high level of security, and supports the Windows NT and Unix platforms, and all primary database systems.
