Constellar Launches Software for Single-Pass Loading of Large Data Volumes
ACTION ITEMS

Constellar Corporation has introduced Constellar WarehouseBuilder, an enterprise software solution for high-performance, single-pass acquisition, transformation, aggregation and loading of large, complex data volumes into multiple data warehouses, data marts and leading OLAP products.

Constellar WarehouseBuilder is designed for organizations that need to consolidate and manage information from multiple operational databases into a single logical model and load the aggregated, transformed data into a wide range of data stores and schemas including conventional RDBMSs, Star or Snowflake, or leading OLAP formats such as Arbor Essbase OLAP Server.

Constellar WarehouseBuilder is the first in a family of products that extends the core functionality of Constellar Hub, a centralized, manageable, high-performance, scalable solution for data transformation, data movement and interface management across enterprise applications. Constellar Hub provides a packaged application integration solution that is designed to bypass the need to generate multiple point-to-point extraction and movement programs. Constellar WarehouseBuilder eliminates the need for separate, low-volume data mart-builder/stuffer products.

"Constellar was the first company to recognize and implement a hub-based solution to handle the emerging requirements of corporate data sharing, and we are first again to provide a high-performance, high-volume solution for aggregation and loading of data into data warehouses, data marts and OLAP environments," said Brian Donnelly, chairman and CEO of Constellar. "Together, Constellar WarehouseBuilder and Constellar Hub deliver a powerful solution that supports complex data warehousing requirements as part of a company's overall application integration strategy."

"This is the forward-thinking direction organizations will take in engineering data sharing between operational as well as decision support applications," said Doug Lynn, senior research analyst, Open Computing and Server Strategies, META Group. "No one wants to have to integrate and manage disparate products for data transformation and movement, or worse, create 'stovepiped' combinations of data marts and legacy or new ERP application architectures.

"Constellar's enterprise application network provides IT organizations with a centrally-managed, scalable infrastructure for data sharing across disparate application systems," said Lynn.

Specific capabilities of Constellar WarehouseBuilder include:

High Performance Aggregation - a unique Dimensional Framework dynamically derives metadata and adds dimensional context to all operational data acquired by Constellar Hub. This enables large data volumes to be aggregated on-the-fly in a single pass process, which reduces delivery times and substantially improves performance

Rapid Warehouse Creation - rules-based wizards and templates support the rapid creation of dimension hierarchies to provide fast population and refresh of data warehouses and data marts

Flexible Data Delivery - support for multiple target platforms and leading OLAP, ROLAP/MOLAP environments provides enormous flexibility in the partitioning and delivery of information to target sources.

"OLAP has become a critical component of the enterprise data warehouse," said Kirk Cruikshank, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Arbor Software. "Constellar's WarehouseBuilder speeds the loading of Arbor Essbase OLAP data marts so that customers can quickly deploy a wide range of analytic applications, such as sales analysis, profitability analysis and performance measurement."

Constellar WarehouseBuilder is available immediately. Supported platforms include: HP-UX, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, and Windows NT for the server; and Windows 95 and Windows NT clients. Constellar WarehouseBuilder pricing starts at $75,000.

Constellar Corporation provides software and services to large organizations worldwide to manage data transformation and movement across enterprise application networks. Constellar enables new classes of vendor-independent business solutions through Application Networking -- the hub-and-spokes interconnection of enterprise applications -- just as internetworking hardware solutions enabled new classes of data networking solutions. Constellar is based in Redwood Shores, Calif. and has U.S. regional operations in New York, Chicago and Dallas, and U.K. operations in Reading, England and London.
