TimesTen Performance Software and Prism Solutions Inc. have announced the availability of the TimesTen Option with the Prism Executive Suite as part of Prism's new Right Choice Architecture. The TimesTen Option allows Prism's data warehouse customers to transform production data into their data warehouse 30-50 times faster than without the option. The TimesTen performance increase reduces this typically time-intensive process into minutes rather than hours, shrinking the time "from data to decisions" dramatically.
The TimesTen Option in the Prism Executive Suite is based on the TimesTen 2.0 Main-Memory Data Manager. TimesTen pioneered the main-memory database category for "Real-Time-Relational" applications, offering a minimum ten times performance increase over disk-based databases.
"Prism's commitment to innovation resulted in our partnership and their inclusion of TimesTen's unique technology in this release," said Tim Shetler, vice president of marketing at TimesTen Performance Software.
"When you apply the real-time speed-up of TimesTen to the time-consuming task of transforming gigabytes of data into a data warehouse, the time savings are very real. Our benchmarks with Prism showed a 30-50 times increase in performance, which translates into dramatic cost and time savings for Prism's customers."
"The TimesTen Option is a great addition to the Prism Executive Suite," said Chris Hyrne, vice president of marketing at Prism Solutions.
"TimesTen supports our mission to remove data warehousing limits and minimize the time it takes for our data warehouse and data mart customers to access data and make better business decisions. Real-Time-Relational technology from TimesTen, working with our Right Choice Architecture, simply allows customers to get to their data sooner. In data warehousing, there is no greater benefit."
The TimesTen data manager delivers real-time database performance that is at least ten times (1000 %) faster than the best performance of conventional databases. It does this while still implementing the relational database model and related standards, such as SQL.
This breakthrough was accomplished through the productization of years of research into memory-resident database algorithms. Continual declines in the cost of physical memory (RAM), coupled with the imminent conversion of computers to 64-bit addressing, have enabled this technology to be feasible on a large scale.
