PowerCenter Product Integrated with Data Cleansing
ACTION ITEMS
Informatica Corp., a leading provider of software for deploying business intelligence and analytic applications across the enterprise, has announced the integration of its PowerCenter 1.5 product with The Trillium Software System, a premier enterprise data cleansing technology. Essential for data warehousing, data cleansing leverages the full business potential of customer databases and other enterprise information by providing improved data quality, giving companies confidence in the accuracy and usefulness of their data to make effective business decisions.
Enterprise-class corporations are increasingly turning to data warehousing to share mission-critical information across data stores, applications and organizational units. As data volumes skyrocket into the terabyte level, these global companies are faced with a unique challenge of ensuring that the vast amounts of heterogeneous, complex source data they are relying on for effective decision support are accurate, complete, and relevant.
"You can't make good decisions on inconsistent data," said Mitch Kramer, Director, Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing, Patricia Seybold Group. "Data cleansing is a critical aspect of large-scale decision support. For organizations whose decision support systems are built from multiple operational and/or external data sources, clean and consistent data can be the key to effective decision making and to ensuring a significant return on investment. Trillium adds proven data cleansing capabilities to the extraction, transformation, and loading functionality of PowerCenter. Informatica's customers will find it to be a valuable addition to their tool kits."
Trillium Software System is an enterprise-wide, general-purpose data cleansing software product that enables organizations to cleanse all types of legacy and operational data. Deployed seamlessly within an Informatica PowerCenter environment, Trillium's state-of-the-art approach enables organizations to develop an industrial-strength data quality management process as part of their overall decision support solution.
"Our platform-independent model for data warehousing provides customers with the ability to leverage heterogeneous, global environments," said Diaz Nesamoney, president, Informatica Corp. "Trillium is a leader in the enterprise data cleansing space and a company that understands enterprise data and large, mixed-platform environments. Together, we are ensuring that the information coming from each data source is of the highest quality to support mission-critical applications and strategic decision-making."
"We are impressed with Informatica's vision and ability to offer best-of-breed decision support solutions," said Leonard Dubois, director of marketing for Trillium Software. "This is a great match between our companies, as Trillium's capabilities are proven the world over at such enterprise sites as Microsoft, American Express, 3M, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, and Sun."
The Trillium Software System exploits Informatica's Transformation Exchange (TX) application programming interface (API) delivered in February 1998 with the shipment of PowerCenter 1.0. The TX API exposes Informatica's metadata-driven transformation engine to third-party products, enabling best-of-breed business intelligence solutions to be deployed around Informatica's core software technology.
Through a joint development effort between the two companies, Trillium's set of software modules, which cleanse all types of data, will reside on the same server as the Informatica transformation engine employed PowerCenter. As a user creates data mappings from operational source databases to a target data mart or data warehouse, they can also execute Trillium's parsing and geocoding cleansing routines through an easy-to-use graphical desktop object accessible from the transformation toolbar within PowerCenter.
The Trillium Parser uses context sensitive processing to elementize and standardize data into specific fields, such as product, service, addresses, company names and salutations. This allows users to define their own business rules or customize the parsing to ensure the accuracy of their information. The Geocoder appends census and geographic information to records, such as longitude and latitude or zip + 4 + 2 extensions.
Trillium's routines can be applied to customer information as well as financial, manufacturing, order entry and other types of enterprise data.
PowerCenter 1.5 and Trillium's System Recognition are sold separately. PowerCenter 1.5 is currently in beta and is scheduled for General Availability in Q498. Trillium's System Recognition is available immediately.
