Data General and ISL to Supply Integrated Data Warehousing and Data Mining Solutions
ACTION ITEMS

Data General announced it has signed a Cooperative Marketing agreement with Integral Solutions Ltd. (ISL), based in the UK and its US affiliate ISL Decision Systems Inc. Under terms of the agreement, Data General will add ISL's Clementine data mining system to its DG/INSiiGHT data warehousing solutions portfolio.

At the same time, ISL is announcing immediate availability of the Clementine Data Mining System on Data General's Intel-based AViiON NT servers, including the AV 8600 eight- processor system. A UNIX version, to be available on the AV 20000 and AV 25000 NUMA servers, will follow at the launch of Clementine Version 5.0 in October. The two companies are already working on joint projects in the United States, and plan to extend operations in the future.

"We have carefully selected best-of-breed products for our data warehousing solutions portfolio," said Carl Bonta, director of Data Warehousing Solutions at Data General. "Clementine is one such product. It is easy to use, easy to implement, and is highly rated by analysts and users. Furthermore, ISL's data mining expertise can greatly ease the building and deployment of data mining systems."

"We're very happy to work with Data General in providing enterprise-wide data warehousing solutions. Its clustered AViiON NT systems, NUMA architecture, and CLARiiON Fibre Channel storage provide the horsepower for serious data mining applications. As a result, Data General's platforms are ideal for Clementine," said Alan Montgomery, Managing Director of ISL. "Our skills and technology complement each other well. We look forward to many successful projects together."

Clementine is a data mining system which helps business users find vital information within data and deploy this new knowledge in areas such as estimation, forecasting, classification, diagnosis and decision support. Clementine allows users to extract selected data, manipulate it, and visualize trends and relationships through a simple "visual programming" interface.

At the heart of Clementine are machine learning "engines," for neural networks and rule induction. They can automatically identify relationships in data and generate rules to apply to future cases. These techniques are powerful, but with Clementine their complexity is hidden; the engines are automatically configured to suit the data, enabling users to focus on business issues, not analytic detail.

Data General's AViiON family includes servers for UNIX or NT applications. Data General's NT-based AViiON line includes the entry-level AV 2150, which is available with single or dual 300-MHz Pentium II processors; the AV 3700 and AV 3700R, which have up to four 400-MHz Pentium II Xeon processors; and the powerful AV 8600 enterprise server, with up to eight 200-MHz Pentium Pro processors. These systems are also available in award-winning NT Cluster-in-a-Box and TermServer-in-a-Box packages. UNIX servers include the 32-processor AV 20000 NUMA server and the 64-processor AV 25000 NUMA server.

The ISL Group is a leading full service data-mining company, supplying consultancy and training in support of its Clementine product. More information is available on the World Wide Web at http://www.isldsi.com
