Information Builders and Compaq Announce Expanded Relationship

Information Builders and Compaq Computer Corporation have announced an expanded relationship through which Compaq will sell a Web-based data mart solution for OpenVMS (VAX or Alpha) or Windows NT (Intel or Alpha) based on Information Builders SmartMart and WebFOCUS products. The Compaq offering is called the Web Data Mart Suite.

"It was very important for us to provide OpenVMS customers with a state-of-the-art data warehouse solution," said Rich Marcello, vice president, Compaq's OpenVMS System Software Group. "Our customers require access to data located across multiple platforms and operating systems via the Web, as well as through traditional access methods. Our relationship with Information Builders and their SmartMart and WebFOCUS products allows us to provide this capability to our customers."

The Web Data Mart Suite is a complete, scalable, single-vendor solution which provides all the tools to build, manage and use a Web-based or client/server data mart. Included are tools for, data extraction, transformation and movement, reporting and analysis, Web access and administration.

The Compaq Web Data Mart suite's architecture includes Information Builders' award-winning EDA technology. This middleware product gives users the ability to access and join data located in more than 70 database structures (both legacy and relational) on more than 35 operating platforms, and works with all security systems and network architectures.

Because the Web Data Mart suite is a complete, single-vendor solution, clients are assured all components are fully tested to work together. This leads to faster deployment and lowers the risk of having to piece together technologies from multiple vendors.

WebFOCUS offers reporting, analysis and decision support on the Web. This unique facility generates reports in HTML for display on any standard Web browser, provides drill-down capability, creates ad hoc reports, and centralizes the scheduling and distribution of reports via the Web, e-mail, or printers.

Information Builders' SmartMart Data Warehousing Toolkit provides all the middleware tools, technology, and services to build, manage, and use data warehousing solutions to solve business problems and deliver fast ROI. Web Data Mart is available immediately on Compaq's OpenVMS and Windows NT system offerings.
