Evoke Software Introduces Next Generation of Its
Data Profiling and Mapping Solution
ACTION ITEMS
Evoke Software Corp., a pioneer in Data Profiling technology, has announced the latest release of Migration Architect, a Data Profiling and Mapping solution that enables companies to better understand the content and structure of their corporate data prior to implementing ERP, data warehouse or data consolidation projects. By using Migration Architect's unique Data Profiling technology, companies are accelerating project completion timelines while reducing project risk and costs.
Data Profiling and Mapping is the process whereby the content and structure of legacy data sources are examined and understood in detail, and mapping specifications are produced for the successful movement and transformation of the data from source to target. This process consists of six sequential steps, three for Data Profiling and three for Data Mapping, with each step building on the information produced in the previous steps.
Migration Architect performs Data Profiling and Mapping using the actual source data, instead of inaccurate metadata and outdated documentation. This approach results in a data model and set of transformation maps that are 100 percent supported by the data, removing much of the risk from your data migration projects.
"Evoke's Migration Architect defines a new software category and does something that no other technology or product can do -- perform a computational analysis on actual legacy data and extract critical information based on that analysis," said Lacy Edwards, President and CEO of Evoke Software. " Migration Architect enables project completion in a fraction of the time, at a much lower cost, and with much greater accuracy and quality than is possible with conventional profiling and mapping methodologies."
The Automobile Club of Southern California used Migration Architect to create a data mart decision support system from data sources residing on an IBM mainframe. Ralph Nordstrom, data warehouse architect, headed up the project. "To run a successful business today we need high quality and timely data on which we can base multimillion dollar decisions," Nordstrom said. "Without Migration Architect, we would not have been able to do the up-front analysis that made the data mart project such a success. Migration Architect does things that the human mind can't possibly do, and delivers significant time and cost savings."
Migration Architect automates the time-consuming and complicated process of profiling all aspects of legacy data -- the essential first step in any data migration project. Its unique inference-based technology enables data and business analysts to interactively profile data sources in three dimensions -- down columns (Column Profiling), across rows (Dependency Profiling), and across tables (Redundancy Profiling) -- providing them with a thorough understanding of data content, structure, quality and integrity. This level of understanding cannot be achieved manually.
The resulting profile forms the basis for developing an accurate data model and set of source-to-target transformation maps. This, in turn, is used in conjunction with third-party data migration tools to extract, scrub, transform, and load the data from one system to another.
Migration Architect bridges the communication gap between application end users and IT professionals by providing the facts necessary to make informed decisions supporting the requirements of the project. Such projects include:
Migration Architect has a U.S. list price of $200,000 for the server component and $50,000 for each concurrent user interface, or " token." Typical initial installations include a server and two or three tokens. Evoke also provides ongoing support and maintenance contracts that enable customers to continue to profile their data and validate data quality after operational use, or to use Migration Architect on a different project within the company.
