Sagent Technology and BMC Software Team to Speed Data Mart Population and Deployment from Large-Transaction Systems

Sagent Technology Inc., provider of a leading turnkey solution for bringing data marts to the Web, has announced it has teamed with BMC Software, a leader in providing Application Service Assurance (ASA) solutions, to reliably capture legacy data, then speed and simplify the process of building data marts from very large transaction systems.

In particular, customers using the Sagent Data Mart Solution, a turnkey system for building, deploying and accessing data marts, can benefit from BMC Software's change data capture product, ChangeDataMove, to capture updated records from large-scale transaction systems and then appropriately propagate the records. Sagent's comprehensive data transformation capabilities then let users easily add the additional processing logic required by a change capture strategy to make the entire process seamless and quick.

"This partnership enhances BMC Software's Enterprise Data Propagation strategy (EDP), which ensures the fastest, most efficient, most reliable movement of mainframe data to mainframe, open systems and NT databases," states Nancy Harris, director of product marketing data availability for BMC Software. Many organizations with very high-volume transaction systems need an efficient mechanism to move changed or updated records into their data marts for analysis. Existing solutions for change capture, however, impose significant storage and performance overhead, and do not provide the change capture reliability that users require. The result of the integration is a comprehensive, high performance solution for capturing and propagating legacy data to data warehouses and data marts running on open systems and NT databases.

Recently announced, BMC Software's Enterprise Data Propagation (EDP) solution includes two products; ChangeDataMove and DataReach.

ChangeDataMove provides highly efficient, transaction-based change capture for DB2 for OS/390, IMS, CICS VSAM and VSAM batch applications with near real time or scheduled propagation of the captured changes to DB2 for OS/390 and to Oracle on Unix. The product is a high performance solution designed to support operational applications executing hundreds of transactions per second.

DataReach, developed through a partnership between BMC Software and EMC Corporation, provides a new approach for moving DB2 for OS/390 data to Oracle, Sybase and Informix databases on Unix systems. DataReach, while executing on a Unix host, uses EMC Symmetrix storage to directly access MVS DB2 data. The data transfers are performed at channel speeds, no mainframe overhead is involved and no network traffic is generated. As a result, DataReach accomplishes a move and load to the target system much more quickly than typical network solutions.
