Unisys Corporation and Vento Software have announced the sale of the VentoMap solution to the leading private telecommunications services provider in Brazil, CTBC (Companhia de Telecomunicações do Brazil Central). This is the first VentoMap sale in Brazil resulting from the alliance formed between Unisys and Vento Software in October 1997. That agreement grants Unisys the exclusive distribution rights to the VentoMap software product throughout Latin America and Asia for the telecommunications industry.

CTBC executives in finance, marketing, customer care and network operations expect to gain competitive advantage with the use of the VentoMap applications. They will have the ability to track and analyze customer purchasing patterns, demographic profiles, product usage trends, customer care performance and other key indicators. CTBC selected the Vento/Unisys offering over other proposals due to VentoMap's telecommunications-specific business intelligence capabilities, as-well-as the prospect of having the complete turnkey solution implemented within four months.

"CTBC has become the leading private telecommunications provider in Brazil thanks to our unswerving commitment to providing customers with superb products and superior service," commented Juan Ramon Aviles, CTBC Telecom Commercial Director. "With the breakup of the Telebras System, we face a host of new competitors that will be more agile and aggressive than ever before. We are confident that VentoMap will provide the business intelligence capabilities we need to continue setting benchmarks in Brazil for product innovation, quality and customer service, while helping us meet our aggressive customer acquisition and revenue growth targets."

VentoMap is an advanced business intelligence solution for the telecommunications industry. VentoMap provides decision-makers with an accurate, timely view of the trends affecting their business and presents this information in a graphically rich format, enhancing the essential decision-making process. The solution enables users to make better and more timely decisions that can yield significant increases in revenue, market share, brand affinity, customer retention and overall profitability.

VentoMap employs highly sophisticated data warehousing and decision-support technologies. As a result it can be implemented and begin providing tangible business benefits in four months or less.

"Unisys is committed to offering best-of-breed solutions that provide tangible business benefits to companies in a broad range of industry sectors," commented Jack Blaine, president, Unisys Pacific Asia Americas Africa. "In the telecommunications market, the VentoMap product from Vento Software provides a complete solution for telecom firms seeking the competitive advantages that derives from knowing -- and better serving -- their customers. We are pleased that our alliance with Vento enables us to offer CTBC the business intelligence solutions they need to retain their leadership position in the Brazilian telecom marketplace."
