PLATINUM Technology Enhances Enterprise Repository, Integrates Universal Directory Features

PLATINUM Technology, Inc. announced significant enhancements to PLATINUM Repository/Open Enterprise Edition. The new version of the Repository provides end-users with extended navigation capabilities and access to more types of metadata for easier analysis.

As part of the key enhancements, PLATINUM successfully integrated powerful features of Universal Directory (UD), recently acquired from Logic Works, into its Repository because UD has long been renowned for its simplified approach to viewing metadata.

PLATINUM Repository's new interface enables customers to more easily track enterprise application development and ERP deployment efforts by providing an understanding of the complex architecture of applications such as SAP and PeopleSoft.

The Repository now offers metadata indexing capabilities for such common file formats as Microsoft Word and Excel. Additionally, the enhanced solution provides a scheduled synchronization feature to automate the manual updating process of constantly changing corporate metadata. This feature provides quick and easy ongoing maintenance of critical information, minimizing IT time and resources.

CPI Corporation relies on PLATINUM Repository to standardize business rules and formulas across a variety of data warehousing tools within its organization. The company is able to reduce application development time and visualize IT operations across the enterprise. "PLATINUM Repository's new user interface will help our business users access the repository data they need, when they need it, freeing time for our IT group to concentrate on application development," said Steve Skinner, technology coordinator, systems architect for CPI. "This solution also enables our IT team to more efficiently develop and deliver critical enterprise applications by allowing them to reuse the metadata." CPI operates 1,200 retail stores including 1,026 Sears Portrait Studios in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada and 156 Prints Plus Wall decor stores.

"PLATINUM's enterprise-class repository provides business users with transparent access to metadata through common interfaces and tool integration, allowing organizations to maximize their investments in existing tools from multiple vendors," said Mikael Wipperfeld, PLATINUM's vice president of marketing for data warehousing.

The enhancements bolster PLATINUM's repository offerings. PLATINUM Repository increases organizations' success with warehouse implementation and application development. PLATINUM has a 10-year proven track record in enterprise repository with more than 500 implementations worldwide.

PLATINUM's leadership in metadata management is further underscored by the company's strategic, long-term repository development partnership with Microsoft.
