GOLDMineR 2.0 Modeling Software
Provides Better Predictions
SPSS has developed a way to shed new light on all the data that businesses gather on a daily basis. With GOLDMineR 2.0 software, people now have a more accurate approach to creating predictive models of ranked or ordered items, called ordinal outcomes, enabling commercial analysts and researchers to predict information like credit risk, ratings or medical outcomes. GOLDMineR's patented charts also help make information more understandable to non-statisticians by presenting results in an easy-to-read format. GOLDMineR began shipping worldwide in September.
"From marketing researchers to analysts in a business setting, users will find that GOLDMineR 2.0 gives insights that other packages just don't provide, " said Tony Babinec, director of advanced products marketing. "Before GOLDMineR, many researchers would analyze responses in simple tabular displays, or by linear regression, which might not generate a good predictive model for this type of data. GOLDMineR is the first product to deliver the right framework to create better models and more meaningful findings."
GOLDMineR is an acronym for Graphical Ordinal Logit Displays based on Monotonic Regression. It is designed specifically for use with ordered, but not necessarily evenly spaced, items in surveys and other data. For example, without GOLDMineR's modeling approach, researchers often treated response categories for ordinal variables as if they were equidistant from each other - as if 'seldom true' was equidistant to 'never true' and `sometimes true' the same way '2' is equidistant from '1' and '3'. While those items cannot be considered equidistant, analysts would treat them as if they were, for lack of a better approach. Now, GOLDMineR is able to create predictive models for this type of data without sacrificing accuracy in the results.
GOLDMineR is the latest product to come from SPSS' partnership with Statistical Innovations. Statistical Innovations is responsible for product development and SPSS holds exclusive worldwide marketing rights. The two companies previously worked together on CHAID, a decision tree product.
