Data Warehousing, Customer Relationship Management
Drive Recent SAS Institute Sales
SAS Institute Inc., announced strategic sales to leading organizations during the third quarter of its fiscal year. Key technologies driving these sales were data warehousing and customer relationship management. Among the customers purchasing SAS software for use in these areas were Toronto Dominion Bank, Royal Bank of Canada, U S WEST, and Scudder Kemper Investments.
Many other leading organizations purchased SAS software for other business applications this quarter. The list includes Ameritech Services Inc., a telecommunications company based in Chicago and one of the world's 100-largest companies; The Guardian, one of the country's largest providers of life and disability income insurance and employee benefits such as medical, dental, disability and life insurance and pension products; People's Bank of Bridgeport, Conn.; NationsBank, now Bank of America, the largest retail bank in the U.S.; and Smithkline Beecham, one of the world's leading healthcare companies.
CRM is key for banking and telecommunications
Reducing customer attrition, identifying cross-sell opportunities, and campaign management are activities of customer relationship management (CRM). Toronto Dominion Bank of Canada (TD) solidified its commitment to CRM by licensing the Institute's data mining product, Enterprise Miner software." Understanding customer behavior and quickly responding to customer needs will be keys to long-term success in an increasingly competitive and global financial services sector," said Barb Cromb, vice president, TD Access. "SAS Institute's Enterprise Miner software will help TD Bank to better analyze and understand the value of our customer data, and will enable TD to more effectively match our products and services with our customers' needs."
Royal Bank of Canada, Canada's premier global financial services group and a leading provider of personal and business banking, corporate and investment banking, and wealth management services, licensed Enterprise Miner software for use in its card marketing department. The software will allow the Royal Bank to uncover trends and relationships among massive volumes of corporate information.
U S WEST, one of the largest telecommunications firms in the world, expanded its use of SAS software to include Enterprise Miner software. As an integral part of its Customer Relationship Management Strategy (CRMS), US WEST will use Enterprise Miner software along with ValEx campaign management software from Exchange Applications, to develop a true one-to-one marketing environment that targets customers based on an optimal balance of needs and customer economics.
Data warehousing - doing more than storing data
Scudder Kemper Investments, Inc. (SKI) is partnering with the Institute for a customer segmentation project using SKI's new customer-centric data warehouse. The project, still in its early phases, is focused on improving SKI's return on investment from its mutual fund customers. By engaging in a process using extreme customer-profitability gradients, SKI hopes to more accurately identify its most profitable customers. This knowledge will be used to enhance customer-service offerings and to strategically manage account augmentation and diminishment. The purchase included training, consulting services, and software.
Additional industry, technology sales
Knoll Pharmaceutical Company, a producer of cardiovascular and central nervous system pharmaceuticals, recently selected SAS/PH-Clinical software as its solution for their Global Analysis and Reporting System. SAS/PH-Clinical software will provide Knoll with a common interface to clinical trial data for members of their biometrics units across sites in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This will allow the company to facilitate resource and skill sharing, and provide it with easy access to its data for analysis and reporting. SAS/PH-Clinical software will also provide a vehicle for the introduction of standard tables and reports by providing a framework for their development, access, and use. The members of the clinical development and medical writing teams will also experience direct, but controlled, access to sophisticated and statistically sound reports and analyses. Knoll views SAS/PH-Clinical software as a solution that will satisfy all their requirements and allow them to successfully achieve their goals.
