WALKETT GROUP LAUNCHES PJM'S DATA WAREHOUSE
WITH MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 7.0
Walklett Group announced the implementation of a Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 data warehouse at PJM Interconnection, LLC (PJM). PJM is the largest electrical control area in North America and the fourth largest in the world, providing electricity to nearly 23 million people in all or parts of five states and the District of Columbia.
The 300 gigabyte data warehouse, referred to as the PJM Information Warehouse, enables PJM users to instantly access up-to-date real-time information through their web browsers. The previous solution in place was a manual reporting process that made it difficult for end-users to access information, as it was not centralized. PJM plans to continue to work with Walklett Group on growing the Information Warehouse, adding additional data marts and using the Data Transfer Services component of SQL Server 7.0.
"The implementation of the PJM Information Warehouse based on SQL Server 7.0 is helping PJM improve our productivity, competitive stance and customer service," said Mark Gravener, a Senior Engineer for the Operations Performance Department at PJM. "With Walklett Group's assistance, we determined that a solution based on SQL Server 7.0 and Windows NT best addresses our business needs."
"The main users of the PJM Information Warehouse include 50 non-technical decision makers, therefore it was important to build a solution that would provide timely and efficient access to the data reporting environment," said Bryan McClain, principal information system consultant at Walklett Group. "SQL Server 7.0 was selected as the server for the PJM solution, as it offers the best price to performance ratio, makes Data Warehouses and Data Marts easy to design, build and manage, and offers ease of use, reliability and scalability."
"Walklett Group has spent years providing quality services and support to customers implementing solutions based on Microsoft technologies," said Bryan Watson, general manager, partner and corporate account marketing at Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq: MSFT). "We are excited to see them applying their expertise to the data warehousing arena, taking advantage of the new features and service opportunities that exist with SQL Server 7.0."
Walklett Group is providing all the implementation services surrounding these technologies as outlined above. Specifically, Walklett Group is wrapping the SQL Server 7.0 environment with front-end query and analysis tools to permit access of the initial relational structures; and taking advantage of the multi-dimensional aspects of SQL Server 7.0 to ensure the Information Warehouse's optimal performance.
PJM is the largest electrical control area in North America, providing reliable electricity to customers in all or parts of five states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 23 million people are served by PJM members. The PJM control area coordinates the operation of 8,000 miles of bulk power transmission lines and 540 generating units providing over 56,000 megawatts of capacity.
