HARMONY SOFTWARE DRAMATICALLY REDUCES COST AND TIME
OF DATA MART AND ANALYTICAL APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
Harmony Software, a new venture pioneering the Business Performance Management (BPM) software market, has introduced a suite of data models that dramatically reduce the time and cost of developing integrated data marts and analytical applications. Harmony's data models provide application developers in corporations, software companies and system integrators with the architectural blueprint for mapping the data elements and data inter-relationships that are required to build integrated data marts and analytic applications. The Harmony data models can reduce data mart development time from six to eight months to a matter of weeks.
Harmony's integrated data models provide the data architecture for any data warehouse or analytical application. According to a report on Enterprise Information Architectures issued by the Gartner Group, "the more completely defined the information architecture, the higher the quality and greater the likelihood of delivering what the user needs in a cost effective manner."
Harmony data models are available for twenty-three industries, including banking, finance, pharmaceutical and retail, and thirty-one business functions, including manufacturing, inventory, human resources and finance. The Harmony data models represent over 15 man-years of engineering, and have been validated by over 150 companies. Because the data models for each business function use the same data definitions and cross-functional inter-relationships, Harmony dramatically simplifies the task of building integrated applications.
"While Harmony will continue to focus on leading the Business Performance Management application segment with our Supply Chain, Demand Chain, and Financials metric modules, our data models and modeling capability can provide tremendous value for corporations, ISVs, or systems integrators looking to develop other types of analytic applications or data marts," said Mitch Kristofferson, senior director of marketing at Harmony Software. "Companies building data marts or analytic applications often short circuit planning and design in order to 'get something done quickly.' Too often, the resulting systems fails to meet company expectations. By leveraging the vast amount of research, design, and industry experience built into Harmony's data models, our customers can achieve faster deployment of high quality marts or analytic applications that truly meet their end-user needs. Licensing our data models to corporations and solution providers supports Harmony's strategy to enable better business decisions in the enterprise."
The primary components of the Harmony data model suite include the Enterprise Data Models, the Business Area Models and the Dimension Models, all of which can be installed and operational within an hour. The models can be used by any CASE tool to generate database schemas that can be immediately populated with data.
"Corporate IT groups are increasingly choosing to buy more of their analytical software solutions rather than build them from scratch," said Henry Morris, Program Director for Data Warehousing and Information Access at International Data Corporation. "A key issue with this approach is always the relevance of the packaged software to a company's actual business. By delivering a set of data models tailored to information access profiles of specific vertical industries, Harmony gives companies a head start towards deploying a solution that more closely meets their needs. And by delivering models at strategic as well as more granular levels, Harmony helps companies integrate multiple analytic applications for overall enterprise performance optimization."
